Position Overview

The Patient Care Manager is responsible for ensuring that patient care and services are delivered in accordance with the Hospital’s vision and strategic goals. This is achieved in partnership with the Supervisor by providing patient and family centered care, encouraging people, ensuring value, and inspiring innovation. The Patient Care Manager consistently uses best practices in: leadership, business management innovation, planning and goal setting, process enhancement and standardization, project and change management, team development and performance, communication and problem solving. The Patient Care Manager also manages financial and human resources to ensure optimal and accountable performance of the service areas. The manager oversees the responsibility of ensuring a quality practice setting, based on evidence-supported clinical practice standards that inspire staff to achieve service excellence reflected by high levels of patient satisfaction within a culture of safety and learning.

Education
- Baccalaureate Degree in a clinical discipline required.
- Masters in a related field required or willing to obtain.
- Current registration with professional College/Association required.

Experience
- Minimum of five years related related experience; at least two years in a leadership capacity in a hospital setting required.
- Demonstrated commitment to on-going learning and professional development required.
- Strong leadership skills required.
- Knowledge of organizational structures and functions.
- Working knowledge of Cancer Care Ontario an asset.
- Excellent oral/written communication and presentation skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusting partnerships with internal/external stakeholders required.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills required.
- Demonstrated superior problem solving and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to forecast, plan and monitor the operating and capital equipment budget for areas of responsibility required.
- Demonstrated embodiment of MGH core values required.
- Advocate for patient, staff and the advancement of professional practice required.
- Demonstrated strong customer focus required.
- Knowledge of scheduling and staffing principles preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Labour and employee relations skills with the ability to demonstrate fair and equitable work practices required.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Working knowledge of clinical/administrative computer software, as required.
- Good work and attendance record required.
