Job Summary

The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing digital design and content for various communication channels within the Faculty of Arts, with a focus on websites and internal resource sites. This position provides website content strategy and implementation support to help the Faculty programs meet their business goals and objectives.

The incumbent will work with new and existing units in Arts to provide guidance on digital communications best practices within the Faculty by supporting the ongoing content strategy for Arts CMS, arts.ubc.ca and select Arts Internal Resource (AIR) sites.

The position will keep Arts Communications and Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (ISIT) informed on trends and continual improvement opportunities with regards to external-facing websites and internal resource sites in Arts.

Organizational Status

Reports to the Manager, Design, Arts Communications. This position also receives functional supervision from the Manager, Digital Strategy & Engagement, Arts ISIT. Works closely with the other members of the Arts Communications team and Network, Arts ISIT and units across the faculty, and campus communicators.

Work Performed
- Supports the Arts CMS content strategy by implementing effective communications and executing initiatives and tactics
- Provides digital content strategy consultation, website advice and support to various Arts’ units
- Oversees the architecture and navigation structure of the Faculty websites to continually improve the user experience in terms of web design, consistency, usability, and accessibility.
- Drafts, edits and proofs copy for Arts’ websites, ensuring all content is of a high professional standard and adheres to Faculty of Arts information architecture and content strategy guidelines
- Performs writing and editing services by developing content for websites and other digital communication platforms in collaboration with units and Arts ISIT, editing for style, substance; ensuring consistency in grammar, format, message, and voice
- Selects, edits, and advises on imagery and other visual assets for digital communications and marketing outputs. Works with designers to define project objectives, articulate user needs, and identify deliverables.
- Functions as a content strategy resource for the Faculty by sharing expertise, upholding and implementing best practices, developing intuitive and easy to use materials, and providing training to allow unit staff and select faculty to handle tasks independently.
- Consults with Heads and Directors, committees, departmental communications staff, and select faculty to identify business priorities utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes)
- Responsible for collecting and reporting on unit website analytics to improve information architecture, evaluate ongoing performance of sites, and make recommendations
- Oversees content strategy for arts.ubc.ca, including content maintenance, analytics reviews, and future content optimization; ensures new and existing Arts websites are in alignment with Arts CMS strategy and Arts Visual Identity System
- Manages requests from Dean’s Office to create, update, and maintain select Arts Internal Resource (AIR) websites. Implements Information Architectures and content structures, provides recommendations, training, and guidance for intranet content maintenance best practices, and supports the development and implementation of user access guidelines for select AIR sites.
- Writes copy and develops content strategies for other digital communications and marketing channels such as newsletters, social media, and digital signage.
