The Environment and Climate Resilience Section works to ensure Edmonton's environment sustains quality of life for our present and future citizens. By developing and updating policies and environmental programs and ensuring citizens are engaged and informed, the Section is better able to manage ongoing and emerging climate change issues they oversee such as energy transition, climate adaptation and clean air. Change for Climate is the primary program used to motivate citizens to take action on climate change.

The Environment and Climate Resilience Section is looking to hire students to support the Change for Climate program and outreach for 2024. You will be working on exciting climate change awareness content and materials including writing stories, social media posts, website content, scripts; creating activities and display materials, short videos and more

You will succeed in this role by taking initiative, approaching your work with strategic creativity and enthusiasm, and by having excellent time management, organization and interpersonal skills.

**As a part of the team, you will**:

- Support and deliver outreach and promotional efforts to inform and engage staff and citizens in climate action, both mitigation and adaptatio
- Attend special events with displays and information-gathering materials to spread awareness of climate change and gather data from target populations
- Assist with marketing, promotions and delivery of events to internal and external audiences
- Organize and maintain an inventory outreach materials
- Develop information and outreach materials to assist staff with programming

**Qualifications**:

- Current enrollment at a post-secondary institution, in a recreation, education, environmental sciences, marketing or related degree program

**Assets**
- Experience with social media
- Knowledge of social marketing
- Experience with content creation, basic video editing and photography

**Skills Required for Success**
- Knowledge of the basics of climate change, household energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies (such as solar photovoltaic), sustainable transportation, climate risks and adaptation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and ability to connect with the public to deliver key messages on City programs
- Excellent time management and organization skills
- Willingness to work independently and with a team
- A commitment to service excellence

- Lift up to 20 lbs (such as transporting and loading program material onto carts)

**Conditions of Employment**:

- This position will be a combination of working from home and on-site working conditions.
- Position will require some evening and weekend work
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

**Additional Details**:
**Hours of Work**: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, with the ability to work evenings and weekends when required

**Salary**:$19.749 - $25.135 (Hourly)
