Based in Stratford, Ontario, the Stratford Festival is one of the world’s foremost repertory theatre companies. The Pastry Chef is responsible for the development and execution of all pastries, desserts, and baked goods, often in a high volume, while leading and coaching the baking team. The role of the Pastry Chef at the Stratford Festival is to provide our Guests, Members, Staff and Company with an excellent dining experience while supporting the broader culinary team. This position reports to the Executive Chef and also takes direction from the Associate Director, Food & Beverage or other Café & Catering Managers.

**Responsibilities**:

- Produce consistent, high-quality desserts, pastries and baked goods
- Supervise, coach and delegate duties to Bakers and other culinary team members
- Participate in food preparation and production according to upcoming orders and events
- Assist in menu development in collaboration with Executive Chef
- Assist with large and small catering events
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all organizational and governmental health and safety standards
- Collaborate with Executive Chef and Sous Chef to ensure proper products are ordered and stock levels are accurate
- Ensure food costs are in line with the departments established budgets
- Adhere to the Stratford Festival Health & Safety Commitment and Procedures, and ensure that safe work practices and policies are supported and enforced within reporting structure
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary diploma program, typically a two year program, or equivalent, (i.e. Community college, Technical Institute or Trade School, etc.) in culinary arts
- 1 to 2 years of related experience
- Previous supervisory experience in a kitchen setting
- Experience working in a fast-paced food service environment
- Safe Food Handlers Certification
- Flexible availability to work a variety of operating hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Proficiency in English: verbal and written communication
