The Coordinator of Judaic Outreach and Community Inclusion is responsible for developing and implementing all elements of Tamir’s Judaic program. This position also plans and implements some specialized programs and events within the organization and some open to the community, in a manner consistent with Tamir’s vision, mission, and values. In addition, The Coordinator will be responsible for building awareness and helping the Jewish community and its organizations to develop best practices around inclusion that address communal needs, and to help improve accessibility and inclusion in Jewish life.
The Coordinator will be responsible for leading development of a culture of inclusivity within our Jewish community and assist organizations with capacity building to respond to the needs and wishes of individuals across the disability spectrum so that they may live fully inclusive Jewish lives.
**PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES**:
**1.0 Tamir Judaic Program**
1.1 In collaboration with people supported by Tamir, staff, and volunteers, ensures the development and delivery of an annual calendar of Judaic educational, religious, and cultural programming.
1.2 Communicates with supervisors and other front-line staff information regarding Judaic programs.
1.3 Participate in new staff orientation meetings to train on living a Jewish life and Jewish values.
1.4 Assists in the coordination and implementation of Jewish holiday celebrations either within Tamir or with local Jewish organizations for partnership programming.
1.5 Supports Judaic program volunteers in their assigned duties.
1.6 Develops, coordinates and conducts monthly Judaic programming for people supported in Day Program setting.
1.7 Works with Day Program Supervisor to identify volunteer and employment opportunities within the Jewish community to increase inclusion of people supported by Tamir.
1.8 Assists in coordinating and managing the activities of the Tamir Choir, including supervising the Choir conductor and accompanist.
1.9 Supervising any contract musicians supporting Tamir’s Judaic programming.
**2.0 Administration - Judaics**
2.0.1 Attends Management team meetings, when needed, to inform team of upcoming events, staff support needed, and target audience.
2.0.2 Takes the lead on organization of all events, including recruitment, tracking RSVPs and attendance for all events originating from the Judaic or Outreach office.
2.0.3 Ensures program supplies are purchased and available for programming, stays within the supply budget for Judaic programming.
2.0.4 Assists programs with Judaic inventory and purchased needed supplies
**2.1** **Administration - Outreach**
2.1.1 Work collaboratively with the Ottawa Jewish community’s Committee for Inclusive Jewish Life to develop a communal plan to improve accessibility and involvement in Jewish life for those of varying abilities.
2.1.2 Develop partnerships and establish relationships with relevant staff and lay leadership within local synagogues, schools, the SJCC, the JFO and social service agencies in order to educate and engage them in developing practices of inclusivity.
2.1.3 Provide resources, advice and consultation as needed to help organizations along their paths to making their organizations more accessible and inclusive.
2.1.4 Raise awareness and develop and support programs and activities that promote an inclusive Jewish community.
2.1.5 Program for Jewish Disabilities Awareness and Inclusion Month (JDAIM) occurring every February.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
This position requires that the individual have a comprehensive knowledge of Judaism i.e. Kashrut, Shabbat, Jewish Life Cycles, holidays, practices, and observance and experience working with people with developmental and other disabilities. Experience and skills in leading group programs, and the ability to work collaboratively with others is required. Proficient oral and written communication skills are essential.
- Master’s Degree in education, social work, community development or related field preferably with a specialization in special needs.
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a relevant field.
- Experience in developing and coordinating program design, development, implementation and evaluation, preferably in the area of inclusion.
- Ability to establish and maintain relationships with other professionals and work as part of a team.
- Experience in design and implementation of community surveys as asset.
- Creative thinker and a self-starter who can work with minimum supervision or general guidance and instructions.
- Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.
