The YMCA is a charitable, mission-based organization dedicated to the development of thousands of people in spirit, mind and body. The YMCA of Northern Alberta is seeking a motivated individual that will provide direct service delivery to youth ages 13-17 who are experiencing multiple risk factors in their lives. The Youth Diversion Worker is responsible for the positive relationship building, effective caseload management, supportive counselling, and facilitation of educational workshops to program participants who have had minor interactions with law enforcement. The program is intended to divert youth away from the criminal justice system and help them successfully transition to adulthood through a client centred approach. At all times this individual will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with youth who are experiencing barriers or risk factors in their lives.

**_ Key Responsibilities:_**
- Develop Individual Action Plans in collaboration with each youth and determine individualized direction that meets participants need.
- Research program materials to address emerging trends.
- Demonstrated understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act
- Demonstrated understanding of the Edmonton housing resources.
- Develop and facilitate program workshops
- Maintain accurate participant files that meet confidentiality standards
- Advocate on the behalf of participants to ensure they continue to experience progress towards their goal
- Collect statistical information as defined by funders and YMCA
- Ensure timely, effective communication with program partners
- Comply with all YMCA and program financial targets where assigned
- Demonstrate excellent time management
- Contribute as a member of the staff team in the operation of the program, and complete other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate and promote a personal understanding of and appreciation for the mission, vision, and values and the YMCA programs and services.

Qualifications:_**

**Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration**
- University Degree in Human Services or related education.
- Annual registration in a professional organization as required by law.
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C, Child Welfare & Police Security Clearance and WHMIS Certification
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention and Suicide Intervention Certification preferred.
- Valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract, and access to a vehicle.

**Experience**
- 2 years of experience working directly with youth who have barriers or risk factors in their lives.
- Experience working with cultural groups and marginalized populations.
- Experience working in a team environment.

**Knowledge/Skills**
- Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal and team skills.
- Excellent organization
- Excellent time management skills.
- Ability to work independently
- Working knowledge of group facilitation, individual assessment, program planning and promotion, outcome evaluation, marketing and public relations.
- Beginner knowledge in supportive counselling skills.
- Knowledge of related community, education, youth and human services resources.
- Sensitive to and demonstrated knowledge of dealing with the needs of participants from different cultures and backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows.
