Manager, Technical Accounting

**OVERVIEW**:
Under the general supervision of the VP Finance & Controller, the Manager of Technical Accounting, is responsible for ensuring that company's financial statements and note disclosures are prepared in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and for providing technical guidance to the corporate accounting department. As a member of the RS extended management team, this position will support an organizational culture that cares for others' well-being through best practices in health and safety, in addition to the company's values of respect, integrity, quality, teamwork and professional growth.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Ensure effective communication of regulatory changes and technical issues.
- Perform technical accounting research on a wide variety of business transactions and document conclusions in accounting position papers.
- Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards issued from the accounting standard setters.
- Provide technical accounting support for business unit finance management and other corporate functions.
- Compile Corporate Accounting policies.
- Managing or assisting with both internal and external audits
- Providing leadership, training, and development to finance and accounting staff.
- Researching accounting issues as necessary.
- Responsible for coordinating all external and statutory audits.
- Lead/participate in special projects/oversight of technical accounting areas as assigned.
- Collaboration with different business functions and teams to perform accounting due diligence on potential transactions.
**Training / Qualifications**:
- Knowledge of IFRS and US GAAP
- Working knowledge of accounting software and ERP systems (EPICOR)
- Expert with utilization of Excel and MS Office Products.
- Ability to analyze complex accounting concepts.
- Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree in one or more of the following areas: Accounting, Finance, Business, MBA, Business/Administration, Education, Technical, Public Accounting, Economics, Management.
- CPA designation
- Minimum of 5 years' experience
- Strong communications skills both verbally and in writing.
- Supervisory experience
**Working Conditions**:
- Home/Office Environment
- Travel as required.
