Sausage Kitchen Lead

VG Meats is looking for a Sausage Kitchen (aka Processing Department) Leader in Simcoe, ON
The Processing Department Team Lead will be a mature individual who will demonstrate the necessary qualities to perform this position with attention to detail, organization and efficient communication. They will lead, coordinate and schedule the activities of workers to execute the production plan, efficient operation of processing machines, and maintain inventory. Preference will be given to those who possess industry-specific knowledge with respect to meat and/or food formulation and those who have demonstrated the ability to follow process, recipe and machine operating procedures. They will also deliver a strong focus on implementing and maintaining a culture of continuous improvement throughout day-to-day operations.

What you will do as the Processing Department Leader:
- Check inventory of meat (including beef, pork, poultry and speciality meats) to ensure availability for the formulation of recipes to support the production plan
- Check and maintain inventory of spices at the prescribed frequency
- Trouble-shoot production issues as required
- Plan the efficient use of the smokehouse
- Collect data and compile reports
- Ensure efficient operation of equipment (KPIs)
- Conduct daily huddle meeting
- Test and develop products and processes
- Lead team's personal development plans
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required); diploma in Meat Processing or related field of study (preferred) and/or equivalent on-the-job experience
- 3 - 6 years of previous experience in a food processing and or manufacturing facility
- 3 - 6 years of equipment operation experience
- Ability to set up and operate processing equipment: Sausage Stuffer, Industrial Grinder, Vemeg, Brine Injector, Cutter, Mixer, Tumbler, Brine Mixer and Smoker
- Knowledge of meat formulation
- Documentation of personal actions related to recipe record formulation and supervision of other team members involved in this process
- Ability to understand and participate in KPI recording/data input
- Effective interdepartmental and immediate teams communication
Other Skills and titles that will be considered for the role:
Chef, Kitchen manager, cook, equipment operator, technician, process operator, food scientist, process engineer, manager, supervisor, master butcher, master sausage maker.
