Job Summary
Working under the direction of the Manager, Emergency Preparedness, the Emergency Preparedness Specialist works as a member of the team to provide advice and guidance on emergency preparedness. The This position will work collaborate with all department including but not limited to Occupational Health, Security, Facility Operations, Environmental Services, Quality & Risk, Interprofessional Practice, Organizational Development, and Emergency to develop, implement, audit, and update emergency preparedness plans and programs to ensure the safety of employees and patients

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar role along with a demonstrated expertise quality improvement in a hospital environment
- Strong organization skills
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaboration, critical thinking and time management skills
- Working knowledge of Accreditation Canada Standards and ROPs
- Demonstrated ability to work both as a member of a multidisciplinary team and an independent professional
- Demonstrated evidence of ability to prioritize among competing responsibilities and meet expected timelines and deliverables
- Demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office
- Demonstrated expertise in problem solving, decision-making, and evidence-based practice
- Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
- Demonstrated individual leadership skills
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develops, facilitates, and audits the implementation and ongoing functioning of an Emergency Preparedness Plan, Emergency Codes and Business Continuity Plan, education, training and associated activities across the organization as per OHA guidelines
- Support the facilitation of the Emergency Preparedness priority process for Accreditation
- Facilitates development and evaluation of corporate wide emergency preparedness education and training using multiple modalities (e.g. Simulations, tabletop exercises, etc.)
- Leads debriefing sessions with staff and leadership for all actual events and mock exercises
- Assists in identifying potential risks and hazards which may lead to potential emergency events
- Coordinates annual exercise plan for each Emergency Code (excluding Code Blue/Pink) as per standards and regulations
- Provides guidance and advice to teams on planning and conducting emergency response code exercises (e.g., tabletop, drills) and staff on access to policies
- Is an active participant in hospital's Emergency Preparedness Committee
- Works closely with individuals in related roles (e.g. City of Markham, Markham Fire Department, York Region Police, York EMS) to ensure alignment with all Emergency Preparedness activities, response plans and training where appropriate
- Develops processes to track and maintain Emergency Preparedness Manuals and related materials throughout the organization
- Conducts regular audits of all existing hospital policies and procedures to ensure that all documents are current and relevant according to specific department, discipline, and program or service.
