The Department of Health establishes the Government of Alberta’s strategic direction for health, including advising government on health policy, legislation and standards, and public health concerns; monitoring and reporting health system performance; setting policies and priorities for the electronic/digital health environment; and providing oversight and ensuring accountability across the health system.

The Manager, Communicable Disease Information Systems, reporting to the Executive Director, Communicable Disease Control Health, plays a key role in overseeing and advancing Communicable Disease information systems within the Public Health Communicable Diseases Unit. This position is vital for the effective development, reporting, maintenance, and compliance of data surveillance activities.
**Role Responsibilities**:
The Manager, Communicable Disease Information Systems is responsible for:
**1. System Management and Support**
- **Operational Oversight**: Manage day-to-day operations of communicable diseases information systems, including troubleshooting, user support, and issue resolution.
- **Data Quality Management**: Ensure the quality, accuracy, and integrity of data collected within the systems.
- **System Maintenance**: Coordinate routine maintenance, updates, and enhancements for systems under the communicable diseases portfolio.
- **Modernization**: Lead efforts to modernize Communicable Diseases Information Systems with support from leadership and staff.
**2. Process Optimization and Efficiency**
- **Workflow Coordination**: Optimize operational processes within the information systems to ensure efficiency and compliance with established standards.
- **Documentation**: Develop and maintain detailed documentation for system processes, standard operating procedures, and privacy/security protocols.
**3. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication**
- **Internal Liaison**: Serve as the primary point of contact for the information systems team, addressing their needs and providing updates on system status and issues.
- **User Training**: Conduct training sessions for system users to enhance proficiency and effective system utilization.
**4. System Enhancements and Technical Support**
- **Implementation Support**: Assist in the implementation of new features and system updates, minimizing disruptions to operations.
- **Feedback Collection**: Collect and analyze user feedback to identify areas for improvement, relaying suggestions to leadership.
**5. Compliance and Data Coordination**
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and policies specific to communicable diseases information systems.
- Manage the submission of accurate and timely data for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring privacy requirements are met.
**6. Strategic Influence and Project Management**
- **Strategic Influence**: Align team efforts with the long-term strategic direction of the organization.
- **Project Support**:Support the planning, coordination, and execution of projects related to system upgrades or new implementations.
- **Timeline Management**: Monitor project timelines and deliverables, providing regular updates to leadership.
**7. Continuous Improvement & Innovation**
- **Process Review**:Regularly review system processes and workflows to identify improvement opportunities.
- **Best Practices**:Implement best practices in data management and system utilization to enhance operational efficiency.
**8. Team Collaboration and Leadership**
- **Team Support**:Provide guidance and support to team members working with communicable diseases information systems.
