**Civil Crown Counsel 1** (Less than four years of related experience):
$3,633.50 - $4,577.16 bi-weekly / ($94,834 - $119,463/year)

**Civil Crown Counsel 2** (4 years to 11 years of related experience):
$5,148.92 - $6,376.28 bi-weekly / ($134,386 - $166,420/year)

**Civil Crown Counsel 3** (More than 11 years of related experience):
$6,857.81 - $7,604.03 bi-weekly / ($178,988 - $198,465/year)

The Legal Services Division of Alberta Justice (the Division) is the civil legal advisor to the Government of Alberta. Legal officers in the Division practice in diverse areas of law. They carry out a variety of functions, including providing legal advice to Government departments; managing risks; conducting civil litigation; and drafting bills, regulations, Orders in Council and Ministerial orders.

**Role Responsibilities**:

The Legal Services Division of Alberta Justice has an opportunity for you to join the Municpal, Education and Service Alberta (MESA) Legal Team. We provide strategic legal advice to the departments of Municipal Affairs, Education, Technology and Innovation, Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, and the Alberta Emergency Management Agency. We perform a full range of solicitor services and often collaborate with other colleagues in the division on cross-ministry initiatives.

In this role, you will primarily be responsible for providing high quality, proactive and practical legal solutions to Alberta Education. There may also be an opportunity to advise other client departments. Alberta Education

supports students, parents, teachers, and administrators from Early Childhood Services through Grade 12. The department is responsible for funding the education system, overseeing education policy and regulations, setting standards and assessing outcomes, developing curriculum and supporting school authorities in its implementation, teacher development and certification, supporting school authorities in serving students with diverse learning needs, facilitating access to francophone education and strengthening First Nations, Métis and Inuit student outcomes.

Responsibilities include:

- Providing client-focused written and verbal legal and strategic advice to support decision-making on a wide range of issues pertaining to Alberta’s K-12 education system, including policy and program initiatives;
- Providing advice on relevant legislation and the development of new and amending legislation;
- Providing administrative law advice in respect to statutory decision makers;
- Conducting legal research and preparing legal opinions;
- Analyzing legal and strategic risks and recommending mitigation strategies;
- Advising on privacy and information management matters;
- Drafting and reviewing contracts and grants;
- Working with other legal teams to coordinate legal advice and services; and
- Working with clients, including senior government officials, to advance government priorities.
