**Conduct Counsel**

Representing the interests of the public and the CRNA, conduct counsel provides legal advice related to the HPA to the complaints director, and provides expertise surrounding conduct discipline hearings and complaint resolution agreements.

**What You Will Do**
- Represent the complaints director at registrant conduct hearings
- Evaluate allegations and evidence regarding matters of unprofessional
conduct
- Complete legal preparations for hearings; including research, drafting
documents, preparing witnesses, and providing the disclosure of
information to the investigated registrant and their representatives or counsel
- Negotiate and draft consent agreements, including the recommended sanctions,
- for matters going before the hearing tribunal or conduct department
- Negotiate informal resolution agreements with registrants and complainants on behalf of the complaints director
- Consult with the complaints director regarding conduct issues, including evaluation of evidence in investigation reports, drafting allegations and appropriate sanctions
- Provide advice and assistance to the complaints director regarding conduct documents, policies and processes to comply with the HPA, other relevant legislation and administrative law principles
- Respond to queries regarding complaints and the proper avenues for resolution

**What You Posses**
- A bachelor of laws or a juris doctor
- Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta or eligible for membership
- Extensive experience practicing as a barrister and solicitor, preferably in professional regulation or administrative law
- Experience working with the HPA is preferred
- Experience appearing before an administrative law tribunal or court
- Exceptional mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities in a demanding environment
- Superior written and oral communication
- Ability to communicate with a varied group of stakeholders
- In addition to the core competencies listed above, the following are assets:

- A bachelor of science in nursing or an undergraduate degree in another health-related profession
- Certificate in tribunal administrative justice from the Foundation of Administrative Justice (FOAJ)
