Reporting to Manager - Food Services, this position is responsible for food operations at the Youth Shelter. This position also coordinates with Youth Shelter Team leaders for daily meals. This position will ensure that meals are produced following the Canada’s Food Guide and City Of London’s Shelter Guidelines.

The Cook is responsible for supervision of Trainees and volunteers of the kitchen, participating in the training and development of youth trainees. The Cook is largely responsible for ensuring the daily food operations of the site, ordering, menu creation, utilization of donated food product, producing meals for 7-day operation. The cook keeps the kitchen in compliance with all health and safety regulations by ensuring adherence to sanitary and safe food handling guidelines, assisting in the adherence to Third party inspections. Training of youth is paramount, and the cook assists in the mentoring of skills to Youth Trainees.

**Qualifications**:
2 - 5 years related work experience

Recommended Education: Red Seal/ Culinary Management Diploma or Equivalent

Assets: Safe Food Handling Certification

First Aid

HACCP Training

**Responsibilities**:

- Demonstrated ability to engage, coach, mentor and support youth participants and staff
- Responsible for ordering, record keeping etc.
- Ensuring cleanliness and hygiene is maintained in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
- Supervise and participate in the food production, with strong focus on keeping to food budget, utilization of donated/recovered food, ensuring produced meals are maintaining high standards.
- Assign work and side duties to participants and volunteers in accordance with departmental procedures
- Create menus, create and develop recommendations for recipes, costing of recipes,
- Adhere to all Youth Opportunities Unlimited Guidelines, Policies, Rules and Regulations.
- Compliance with all governmental and regulatory requirements ensuring safe food handling practices

- Related experience in kitchen operations and processing, including menu creation, recipe costing and daily food production management
- Related experience in training and development of learners
- Ability to supervise employees including organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments
- Demonstrated familiarity and competent utilization of Microsoft suite programs in particular Excel.
