Reporting to the Manager of Food Services, the Food Service Placement Specialist and Youth Mentor undertakes a multifaceted role that involves comprehensive training in front-of-house operations and case management of youth participants in employment-focused programs. **In this role, the specialist is accountable for individualized case management of youth with a variety of backgrounds with a range of mental health difficulties, enhancing training opportunities, determining motivation, assisting and advising youth in developing practical work and life skills,1:1 job coaching sessions, developing action-oriented plans, supervising youth on day-to-day operations and facilitation of pre-employment programming, providing expert assistance in creating achievable action and training plans by working with YOU's Food Service - Social Enterprise and sites. **This role supports youth success, attendance, skill maintenance, and skill development ensuring confidentiality. The integral aspects of the role include keeping thorough case notes and gathering information for reports to funders, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data on relevant computerized case management systems, and administering assessments while maintaining client case documentation.

The Food Service Placement Specialist is also integral in overseeing and actively participating in the food production operations, ensuring that daily production requirements are met by maintaining exemplary service standards within YOU's front-of-house Food and Beverage services. The specialist must have hands-on experience with the production of food and should possess strong communication skills creating a welcoming environment for customers of YOU’s Food Services. Experience using Point-of-Sale systems, standards for cleanliness, and understanding of food safety protocols is an asset. The Specialist fosters collaboration between Food Services and Career Services, ensuring seamless integration of support for youth participants. This involves active coordination with employment case managers to align training plans and employment goals, creating a cohesive strategy for individual success. Regular representation of Food Services at weekly meetings provides a platform to communicate updates on youth progress, challenges, and program developments.

**Responsibilities**:

- Providing 1:1 job coaching assessment, and motivation for gaining employment and life skills through hands-on training to youth and support to the case management.
- Working with youth from diverse cultural backgrounds and various mental health challenges
- Strengthening training opportunities through YOU’s Food Service - Social Enterprises.
- Using motivational interviewing skills and assertive objective-based interactions to guide participants in establishing achievable action plans.
- Monitoring and achieving individual targets, as well as program targets that include youth attendance, maintenance, and program completion.
- Maintaining and ensuring accurate data quality and integrity on relevant electronic case management systems and up-to-date case notes, completing paperwork and forms, and writing reports as required by funders.

**Qualifications**:

- 1-2 years’ experience in a food service setting priority given to barista, serving, and short order cook.
- Recommended Education: University Degree or minimum 2-year College Diploma in Human/Social Services/ Child and Youth Work from an accredited institution.
- Recommended Experience: Barista, Cook, Food and Beverage Management, Event Planning, or similar related.
- Recommended Certifications - Customer Service certificate, Food and Beverage Management, Event management, or similar related.
- Assets: Safe Food Handling Certification, First Aid and Smart Serve
- Demonstrated ability to engage, coach, mentor and support youth participants and staff.
- Demonstrated abilities in administrative tasks such as ordering, inventory, record keeping, etc.
- Knowledge of standards for cleanliness and hygiene in the various kitchen areas including refrigerators and storerooms and that food products are rotated to ensure high standards of freshness.
