**Position Summary**:
As an integral member of the Banquet management team, the Banquet Captain is responsible for the successful execution and overall administration of banquet functions and for ensuring the delivery of banquet services exceed guest expectations and consistently fulfil Canad Inns standards of service excellence.

The Banquet Captain responsibilities include an effective reporting relationship with the Banquet Manager and Assistant Manager and a strong collaborative link with the Culinary Department. The Banquet Captain provides scheduling, leadership, supervision, support duties as well as being an active banquet team member in the preparation, set-up, service, break-down and cleanup of Banquet functions.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Reviews and understands the Banquet Event Order (BEO); facilitates team setup assignments according to the BEO;
- Learns and understands the menu for each function served and is able to explain the major components and preparation methods for all items being served and alerting guests to allergy related ingredients;
- Ensures that tables have been set correctly and uniformly in assigned area, using: clean, pressed linen (without rips, stains or tears); clean unspotted silverware; clean china with no chips or cracks; clean, unspotted glassware. Confirm that table complements (salt and pepper, sugar, breadbaskets, etc.) have been properly cleaned and filled;
- Is prepared to assist guest and staff at least 15 minutes prior to function start time.
- Responsible for the day to day set-ups and/or breaks down for coffee breaks, receptions, other special functions, as assigned, following standard policies and procedures;
- Responsible for the day to day execution of function room set-ups and break downs, as assigned, according to standard policies and procedures.
- Acknowledges and responds to all guests' requests and ensures their individual needs are met throughout the course of an event;
- Continuously assesses guest needs of assigned section and of entire banquet area, refilling all drinks, removing service items and condiments per established policies and procedures;
- Complete administrative duties as assigned or assume such duties in the absence of the Banquet Manager(s) including but not limited to scheduling, uniform distribution, inventory and ordering of supplies;
- Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, discipline, evaluation and ongoing support of the banquet team
- Coordinates staff breaks in accordance with BEO time parameters and staff shift length;
- Inspects staff uniforms prior to event ensuring compliance with dress code requirements;
- Ensures staff assigned to the event are signed in and out as per required practice;
- Attends and assists with in all pre-event team meetings;
- Assist with the development of cost control systems to reduce waste in food, supplies and labour;
- Monitors and maintains banquet facility cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas;
- Checks storage areas for proper supplies, organization and cleanliness;
- Comply with and support safety and health policies and practices;
**Education and Experience**:

- High School Diploma or GED preferred;
- One to two years supervisory experience in a restaurant, hotel dining room setting;
- A minimum of 3-4 years Banquet experience;
- Possess Serving it Safe / Smart Serve Certification

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Ability to understand and communicate both orally and in writing in English;
- Ability to effectively and efficiently recognize and resolve issues and concerns;
- Demonstrated leadership skills;
- Consistently exemplify a professional attitude and demeanour;
- Strong ability and willingness to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment.

**Working Conditions**:

- Stand, walk and remain on feet throughout the duration of scheduled shift;
- Lift, balance and carry food / drink trays up to 25lbs throughout the duration of scheduled shift;
- Contend with loud noises, large group and potentially disgruntled guests;
- Able to work a variety of shifts including, days, evenings and weekends;
- Ability to successfully attain a clear criminal record check.
