**Job Relationships**:Reports to the Executive Director, directly supervises shelter staff and volunteers, and works in partnership with the Operations Coordinator and the Chief Technical Officer.

**Purpose of Position**:The MRC Manager is responsible for planning, implementation, and supervision related to the shelter facility, staff, volunteers, and animal programs. This includes maintaining and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of all areas under their direction and control in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures, and with the safety of people and animals at the forefront of all activities.

**Position Summary**: The MRC Manager is a senior leadership position that requires strong organizational, interpersonal communication and multi-tasking skills, as well as a passion for supporting humane animal treatment and improving animal welfare. Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the MRC Manager oversees daily operations of the shelter, ensures animal care, supervises shelter staff and volunteers, and oversees facility maintenance and shelter programs.

**Education and Experience Requirement**
- High School Diploma or general education degree.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Experience in a management or supervisory position, preferably in an animal welfare setting.
- Affection for animals, concern for their welfare, and a willingness to accommodate animals in the workplace.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in handling dogs and cats, including feral or difficult cases.
- Strong organizational and technical/administrative skills, including computer experience.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Effective time management skills are essential.
- Emotional resilience to handle difficult and stressful situations.
- Ability to work through conflicts in a calm and proactive manner.
- A quick thinker and efficient self-starter who takes initiative and has the ability to set priorities and manage workloads with mínimal supervision.
- The ability to foster strong working relationships.
- Valid class 5 drivers license.
- Knowledge of the following : (1) principles and techniques for properly handling and caring for injured, difficult and/or potentially dangerous animals, (2) basic husbandry and health care for shelter animals, and (3) the hazards and safety precautions involved in operating an animal shelter.

**Responsibilities**:

- Responsible for overseeing staff and volunteers, ensuring the implementation of and adherence to shelter rules and procedures.
- Willingness to assist with shelter cleaning and dog/cat handling.
- Updates procedures as needed.
- Manage staff and provide guidance and support.
- Manage a team of volunteer foster homes and provide guidance and support.
- Facilitate animal adoptions via foster homes and shelter animals.
- Communicate with the operations team to facilitate Intakes/outcomes of animals and foster home transitions.
- Provide appropriate training as required in coordination with the operations team (includes staff as well as dogs).
- Maintains a clean and environmentally safe shelter environment, ensuring safe functioning, ongoing maintenance and necessary replacement of all shelter equipment and supplies needed.
- Maintains effective inventory control, including ensuring: supplies such as medical/cleaning are always kept in stock, food supplies are monitored and ordered as needed, and animals are entered and updated immediately into our shelter management program and updated on a regular basis.
- Work closely with the social media/fundraising team to provide material they may require promoting adoptions.
- In collaboration and consultation with our participating vets, communicate with foster homes/foster home supervisors and staff regarding animal care and health.
- Ensure building maintenance schedules are kept up.
- Collaborate with staff and the adoption events coordinator to participate in organizing adoption events.
- Scheduling staff and volunteer shifts.
- Working knowledge of programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google docs and willingness to learn other programs used.
- Organize and chair weekly staff meetings.
- Provide on call support to staff and volunteers in the case of emergency situations.

**Working Conditions**

**Work Environment**: Most work is performed in a normal shelter setting; potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases; potential exposure to feral and scared animals; exposure to high noise levels; potential for animal bites and scratches when handling animals; exposure to cleaning products; exposure to various weather conditions. Provide on call support to staff and volunteers in emergency situations.
