**Who are we?**

Operation Come Home is an employment, education, and support centre for homeless and at-risk youth age 16 and up. Our programs focus on what works and what matters to youth, as well as encourage personal growth of everyone as an individual. Operation Come Home is based in Ottawa, Ontario.

**Position Summary**:
The Housing Specialist will provide support to current Housing Based Case Management (HBCM) youth, aged 16 to 25 years old, following the Housing First Model. The staff with use a number of different strategies to recruit and liaise with landlords to assist in securing affordable and safe housing units for youth.

**Reporting**:
The Housing Specialist will report to the Manager of Housing and Support Services.

**Hours**:
Weekdays; between the hours of 8:00 am and 8:00 pm -**primarily during 8:00 am to 4:00 pm;** evenings and weekends when necessary (on-call evening and weekends as needed).

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Assist in resolving issues that put tenancy at risk, including mediating with neighbouring tenants, and support clients through the Landlord and Tenant Board process
- Support the landlord-tenant relationship, always working towards a positive outcome from the clients, including maintaining their housing
- Assist the client by arranging viewings, contacting and negotiating with landlords, choosing housing, assisting with move-in and renewals, furniture procurement, tenant insurance and completing forms pertinent to the Landlord Damage Claim Fund
- Provide and explain information about landlord and tenant rights and responsibilities
- Support the landlord-tenant relationship, following up with the client and/or landlord to ensure the rent is being paid, behaviour issues or client damages are rectified, and that the landlord is completing any needed repairs
- Support clients who need to be re-housed to select, rent and move into new housing
- Support landlords to access the City’s Damage Claim Fund
- Work with a team approach with clients, HBCMs, Peer Support Workers, and others to resolve tenancy issues

**Other responsibilities**:

- As part of the OCH team, promote support for Operation Come Home in the community, including with other service providers
- Respond to incoming calls when assigned
- Attend weekly staff meetings
- Ensure your supervisor is apprised of any and all information that is considered a “need to know”
- Anything else that is requested by management

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of post secondary education in a related field, such as social services
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccinations
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector police check
- Experience with Residential Tenancies Act
- G class license with clear driver’s abstract
- Bilingualism in French and English
- Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) considered an asset
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Certificate considered an asset

$50,232 per year

Duties will be carried out from our office, located at 150 Gloucester Street, Ottawa, ON.
