**JOB OVERVIEW**
- Reporting to the Director of Advocacy (Public Engagement) the Advocacy Specialist (Public Engagement) is an integral part of the Advocacy team, expected to work collaboratively within the department and across the organization. The role is focused on building, motivating, and mobilizing a diverse network of volunteers and stakeholders throughout Canada to achieve CCS advocacy goals.

**WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING**:

- Actively contribute to our culture of justice, belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion by ensuring that all staff feel represented and heard regardless of their gender, age, religion, ethnicity, and nationality or race.
- Build a diverse network of CCS advocacy volunteers to inform and take part in activities to help achieve CCS advocacy goals. Support the design and implementation of tools and tactics to manage large, diverse, grassroots networks of volunteers across Canada
- Create independent projects for advocacy volunteers, focusing specifically on the municipal level of government
- Support government relations activities, including meetings with elected officials at all levels of government across Canada, bringing together CCS storytellers and elected officials
- Plan and execute advocacy campaigns as they relate to cancer care and support for people living with cancer and their families
- Lead evaluation of success following advocacy campaigns
- Work closely CCS fundraising teams and mission teams including volunteer engagement, brand marketing, and communications to ensure advocacy goals are reflected in signature CCS events and programs
- Support digital communications in advocacy, including the advocacy Twitter channel and Voices for Change communications according to best practices in digital marketing, content development, and evaluation
- Inform all other areas of advocacy, with specific attention on ensuring public engagement targets are met

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Post-secondary education, preferably in public administration, health promotion, political science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in grassroots organizing an asset
- Familiarity with CCS signature events including Relay for Life, Run for the Cure, and the Daffodil Campaign
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in policy analysis, government relations, public relations, youth and adult volunteer/community mobilization
- Solid understanding of a range of health-related issues
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in research, public policy development and advocacy techniques
- Flexibility, ability to deal with competing priorities
- Superior communication skills particularly with writing, editing and proof reading
- Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work independently and as a team player
- Strong organizational skills and sound judgment skills with a customer focus
- Analytical skills to identify and respond to emerging issues/opportunities
- Demonstrated ability to build partnerships and succeed in a team environment with diverse stakeholders
- Computer literate, proficient in MSOffice (Word/Excel) and PowerPoint
- Experience with a multi-level non-profit or community health organization is an asset
- Knowledge of Canadian Cancer Society policies and procedures is an asset
