The University Endowment Lands (UEL) is an unincorporated area located between the City of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia, with a population of approximately 4,000 residents. The UEL operates under the authority of the University Endowment Land Act, and the UEL Manager is appointed by the Minister under Section 15(1) of the Act to administer the University Endowment Lands.

Under the supervision of the Public Works Supervisor, work is varied and includes both municipal and grounds maintenance duties. Ensures adherence to proper work methods and techniques and to good safety practices and WCB safety requirements.

Municipal maintenance duties include: repair of roads, curbs, sidewalks, retaining walls, catch basins, culverts and ditches; repairs, maintenance and installation of watermains, hydrants and services, sewer main and trunk systems, installation and repair of streetlighting system (non-electrical), general repair of UEL buildings requiring basic plumbing, carpentry, masonry and painting skills. Position operates a single axle truck of over 10,900 kg GVW, equipped with a gravel dump box and/or snow plough, backhoe and garbage truck and performs other related duties such as hauling gravel or other material.

Grounds maintenance duties include: labouring, landscaping and machine operating; maintaining grounds and buildings throughout the UEL; using a variety of equipment including tractors, mowers, weed-eaters, power-saws and trucks; performing various other related janitorial duties in lunchroom, office, washrooms and assembly room; repair and maintenance of building and structures.

Job Requirements:

- Grade 10 or equivalent.
- Completion of recognized training program in the operation of single and tandem trucks and rubber tired loader or backhoe preferred.
- Mechanical operating aptitude and capability.
- Minimum of two years experience in the operation and maintenance of single rear axle gravel trucks and tractors equipped with backhoe attachments.
- Minimum of two years experience in municipal maintenance and repair.
- Basic training or experience in appropriate trades i.e. carpentry, masonry, plumbing.
- Valid BC Class 3 driver’s licence, with air brake certification-operating endorsement preferred.
