We are seeking a Vice President, Tax to join our team in Winnipeg or Toronto.

The Vice President, Tax is responsible for overseeing all Canadian income tax and commodity tax planning, reporting, compliance, and analysis as well as tax audits for People Corporation and its subsidiaries. The Vice President, Tax will lead all tax issues impacting the company’s operations and will also have responsibility for managing tax relationships with external auditors, advisors, and taxation authorities.

**The Vice President, Tax will**:

- Act as the tax lead for all business units and serve as the liaison between business units, the Executive team, the Ownership group, and other functional teams.
- In collaboration with Corporate Development, Finance, and Legal, lead the acquisition tax process by identifying objectives, consulting with stakeholders, identifying critical success factors, participating in negotiations, reviewing deal documents, reviewing underlying calculations (working capital, purchase price, etc.), undertake detailed technical tax research and documentation, plan for pre
- and post-acquisition structuring, lead the tax integration function following close, and monitor overall groupwide tax efficiency.
- In collaboration with Finance and Accounting, lead the operational tax process by overseeing the quarterly and annual income tax provisions, federal and provincial tax returns (both income and indirect), including documentation of tax positions taken and compliance with all CRA mandatory disclosure and uncertain tax treatments rules, manage tax authority audits, manage cash taxes through regular income tax forecasting, manage and monitor (in conjunction with outside advisors) existing tax planning strategies currently in place, and assess operational tax impact of recent M&A activity and/or internal corporate reorganizations.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to your tax team on a regular basis.
- Provide guidance to all business units on a recurring and ad hoc basis.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with external advisors to ensure that People Corporation has access to the best advice and guidance.
- Undertake special projects as required.

**T**o be successful **as a **Vice President, Tax **with People Corporation, you will need**:

- At least 12 years’ experience in Canadian income tax focusing on mid-market private companies and private equity-owned businesses (preferably obtained in industry or in the tax group of a Big 4 accounting or national law firm.
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation or LL.B. or J.D.
- In-depth Tax - Levels I to III.
- In-depth Tax - Advanced Corporate Reorganizations.
- Extensive experience in an acquisition-focused and growth-oriented business (including deep knowledge and direct experience leading tax due diligence, pre-acquisition structuring, negotiations with vendors, review SPAs, LOIs, etc., closing and post-closing structuring, etc.)
- A strong track record in tax planning, managing tax controversy, and ensuring compliance for income tax, indirect tax and transfer pricing.
- Demonstrable experience in technical tax research and analysis with excellent project management experience, including M&A tax planning.
- Strong understanding around indirect tax issues pertaining to Selected Listed Financial Institutions.
- Substantial experience in coordinating and resolving income and indirect tax disputes with the federal and provincial tax authorities, including Quebec, including negotiations of settlements and advocating for technical and fairness reviews, leveraging external advisors as appropriate.
**- Strong knowledge of the insurance, group benefits, and group retirement services businesses is an asset.
