**WHAT IS THE ROLE ?**

Operating with an Employer of choice mindset, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist plays a key role in retaining talent. Reporting to the Lead, Payroll & Benefits, the Payroll & Benefits Specialist provides a range of integrated pay and benefits services for all Psycho Bunny employees (retail and corporate) across Canada and USA, all with an attention to detail to accuracy in order to enhance the employee experience.

**HOW WILL YOU DO IT?**
**Payroll tasks**
- Add new employees to the payroll system and meticulously maintain employee records for existing employees.
- Terminate employees in the payroll system and process termination payouts for US and Canada, including Record of Employments
- Process full-cycle bi-weekly payroll accurately for both Canada and the US, conducting thorough audits on payroll processing reports.
- Ensure proper payment of deposits, track paid time off and manage off cycle payments
- Process withholdings through garnishments, third-party demands, or support deduction orders when required.
- Maintain and ensure the accuracy of the payroll database, processing necessary corrections.
- Conduct year-end reconciliations for Canada and the US, including tax slips (RL-1s, T4s & W-2s).
- File annual returns for Canada (RL-1 summary, CNESST annual filing, WCB returns for ONT, BC, AB & SK, EHT reporting, etc.).
- Identify opportunities for business efficiency and recommend areas for process improvement.
- Ensure strict compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with Canada and US labor laws, including provincial/state laws and minimum wage requirements.
- Participate in the implementation of a Human Capital Management (HCM) system.

**Benefits administration**
- Manage day-to-day administration of the group benefits program for Canada and the US including but not limited to health, dental, vision, long-term disability, RRSP, flexible spending plan, 401K and ROTH
- Facilitate benefit enrollment for new employees and oversee open enrollment processes
- Ensure accurate processing of benefit changes in the payroll system and group benefit plan portals.
- Process benefit terminations and enroll US employees in COBRA as needed.
- Manage benefit deductions and taxable benefits in the payroll system and perform regular audits on the Benefits Plan (checking hours, rates of pay, enrolments. terminations)
- Collaborate with benefit providers to resolve enrollment, claims, and other issues
- Act as the primary contact for employee queries on the group benefits program.
- Identify opportunities for business efficiency and suggest areas for process improvement.

**WHO YOU ARE ?**

**Your achievements**
- Post-secondary education in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4-5 years experience in Canadian payroll.
- Canadian Payroll Association (CPA) designation is considered an asset.
- Experience and knowledge of US payroll is considered an asset.
- Experience in the retail industry is considered an asset.

**Your contribution**
- Familiar with Canadian labor laws, and willing to learn US labor laws.
- Familiar with payroll systems (Nethris, Desjardins, ADP, Ceridian, etc.).
- Adept with Google Workspace, and Excel.
- Sense of urgency and attention to detail.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making skills.
- Able to multitask efficiently.
