As an Urban Farm Attendant, you will contribute to the daily operations of the Urban Farm through assisting Zookeepers in animal husbandry tasks and animating the farm’s contact yard. - Demonstrate knowledge and passion for interpreting animal behavior, natural history, and learning about sustainability focused agriculture practices relating to urban communities and environments
- Monitor, guide, and supervise animal and public interactions in the Urban Farm Contact Yard while providing a safe and enjoyable experience for the guests
- Observe, learn, and demonstrate safe animal handling procedures relating to the use of animal ambassadors for education focused programming and public talks
- Animate the Urban Farm through fostering positive, professional interactions with visiting patrons, delivering educational experiences and moments while maintaining a high level of customer service including providing content and engagement for zoo special events and rentals
- Assist the Zookeepers in the performance of documented husbandry practices pertaining to the care and welfare of multiple species at a CAZA accredited institution
- Learn, implement and participate in positive animal management strategies for a variety of species using positive reinforcement based operant conditioning techniques and a natural behavior focused multifaceted enrichment program
- Follow safe food handling procedures while preparing nutritionally balanced species appropriate diets according to veterinary directed guidelines including: ingredients, weighted amounts, presentation, consumption monitoring, and scheduled delivery methods
- Follow safety guidelines and standard operating procedures as required related to the daily care and management of a wide variety of species
- Perform other duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum of 16 years of age
- Completion of 10th grade
- Basic knowledge and understanding of domestic, equine, and exotic animals. Direct experience will be considered as an asset
- Ability to provide guests with an enjoyable, informative and welcoming experience
- Ability and knowledge to provide interpretation regarding the animal species, behaviours, and importance throughout history
- Experience with customer service
- Experience working with children and families in a recreational environment is an asset
- Previous experience working with volunteers in considered an asset
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR certification is required prior to start date
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
