Towards this end, OGE develops, promotes and supports global partnerships, alliances, and initiatives that advance UVic's strategic goals for internationalization. OGE provides support to UVic’s senior executive team, deans, faculty and staff in furthering their international aspirations and activities. OGE facilitates international relations, promotes awareness, maintains key relationships, and supports senior executive outbound international travel, hosts inbound delegations, leads projects and programs that enhance UVic's diverse intercultural and global environment contributing to UVic’s worldwide reputation as a leading research university. OGE plays a significant role in coordinating responses to major international incidents.

**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $70,137- $77,330** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $91,214** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job SummaryThe External Engagement Manager is responsible for engaging the Office of Global Engagement’s (OGE) external stakeholders and audiences to advance UVic’s global connectivity, reputation, and aspirations. The External Engagement Manager is a champion and bridge-building presence who designs, supports, and ultimately leads initiatives and activities that result in improved two-way awareness of and relations between UVic and international education associations, member organizations, the consular corps and diplomatic contacts, provincial and federal government contacts, funding agencies, and other entities associated with the international education sector. The External Engagement Manager is also responsible for tracking major international developments and incidents, drawing out the implications for UVic’s global activities, and recommending responses to the Director and AVP of OGE.

The External Engagement Manager reports to the Director, OGE, and collaborates, often in a team-based approach, with departmental colleagues and liaises with multiple external stakeholders including but not limited to: the BC Ministry of Post-Secondary Education & Future Skills (International Education), the BC Council for International Education (BCCIE), Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE), Universities Canada, Global Affairs Canada, Academics Without Borders (AWB), the Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute, Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), International Association of Universities (IAU), foreign consular contacts based in Canada and Canadian diplomatic colleagues based abroad, etc.

Key initiatives include but are not limited to being the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, participating in meetings and presentations with international education associations, facilitating engagement with member organizations, consular contacts and funding agencies. This position acts as a liaison with visiting international partners (existing and prospective) and handles the outward-facing aspects of visiting delegations and partners including direct communications, ensuring appropriate protocols, determining priorities for a visit agenda, etc. The External Engagement Manager establishes the priority level of proposed visits based on institutional strategic interests. The External Engagement Manager also collaborates with university colleagues, such as Alumni Relations, Office of the Registrar and Enrolment Management and other units to arrange meetings and activities for the AVP Global Engagement and senior UVic leaders when representing the University internationally. Additionally, the External Engagement Manager builds and maintains relations with funding programs and agencies and seeks opportunities for UVic to access externally-sourced scholarship and other funding for educational programming and research to advance University priorities. All of the duties highlighted above will be done in collaboration and coordination with the Associate Director, Global Partnerships and Global Engagement Officer, and under the guidance of the Director, OGE.
