The Youth Job Specialist provides a range of assessment and counselling services in order to determine member’ eligibility and employment needs, as well as extensive sales and marketing strategies to attract employers to utilize the program. The Youth Job Specialist works as part of program delivery within a fast-paced employment centre offering multiple program opportunities for youth members.

**In this role, you will**:

- Conduct youth case-management including needs and risk assessment, contracting, implementation and follow-up as it pertains to employment/vocational goals and other needs. Identify and assess youths’ need for job coaching.
- Actively recruit employers and seek out job placement opportunities, including identifying and contacting new prospective employers in industries/labour markets that members have identified as an area of interest. Develop and monitor training plan and agreements with member and employer. Act as a liaison between youth and employer
- Facilitate, develop and evaluate individual training with regards to pre-employment and job maintenance issues
- Provide one to one coaching and motivation. Assist in identifying barriers to employment. Counsel members on proper résumé and job search technique. Assist members in the use of computers and other tools to conduct information searches. Assist members in the development of appropriate work habits, behaviours and attitudes for the workplace.
- Complete case note documentation and handle confidential data; ensure quality audit measures are achieved in accordance with the YMCA and funder’s standards.
- Conduct ongoing outreach to employers and community resources
- Advocate on behalf of the youth to community employers, services and programs that will move them closer to their employment goals and provide co-ordinated service. Consult with team members and community partners to find employment opportunities, and monitor progress in the work environment. Participate in outreach events/ activities through collaboration and relationship development with community partners.
- Ensure self-management of program targets related to the employment program delivery and funder expectations; complete and maintain youth's files as per funder and YMCA quality standards.
- Demonstrate appropriate behaviours in line with our Mission, Vision and Values as reflected in our YMCA competencies; take a member focused approach to increase their understanding of programs offered across the Association. Represent the YMCA and the Association in a professional manner.
- Understand the legal responsibilities and moral imperative to report suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services.
- Understand the importance of the volunteer staff partnership and integrate the value of philanthropy and volunteerism in dealings with members, volunteers, donors and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.

**You bring**:

- University Degree preferred or College Diploma in Careers Planning, Employment Counselling, Social/Community Work, Social Services, Human Resources and/or related field
- Minimum of two years related experience including counselling, sales/marketing, file management, recruitment and job coaching. Other Career Testing Certificates an asset, e.g. Level B: Life Skills
- Access to a motor vehicle is required for this position, as extensive travel within the Region is required
- Superior presentation and written communication skills
- Able to provide excellent service delivery
- Knowledge of community resources, familiarity with the labour market as well as apprenticeship and training opportunities
- Well developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
- Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
- Able to visualize, understand and articulate YMCA outcomes
- Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
