**Position Summary**:
This position reports to the Manager, Aviation Safety Management Systems and will assist with the management, implementation and integration of the Safety Management System (SMS).

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Ensure all processes and requirements meet all legal and SMS regulatory requirements
- Develop, documentation and implementation of standardized “key” safety processes across the organization and ensure that all safety and operational processes and procedures are integrated, and also reflected in emergency preparedness and emergency response procedures
- Research information pertaining to SMS processes and developments, and document best practices
- Ensure sub-processes and procedures are modified and improved on a regular basis to reflect changes in operational practices, scope of business activities, and new technologies
- Develop the SMS framework and document configuration management
- Develop a defined and documented hazard identification and risk management processes, applicable organization-wide
- Identify safety objectives, goals, performance measures and designing metrics which are integrated with quality management, and monitor and support the processes necessary to meet all SMS requirements
- Carry out safety management audits and assisting with internal, independent and Transport Canada audits
- Support, coordinate, conduct and manage investigations into all airside safety incidents, recommendations or observations in relation to safety policies, procedures and training
- Determine causal factors and mitigation strategies
- Conduct SMS and Human Factors and Behavioural Science presentations and training for GTAA personnel and tenants
- Attend and shadow local SMS investigations, reviews, assessments and interviews to provide guidance and expertise to ensure the SMS process is maintained
- Monitor progress of SMS recommendations and action plans and follow-up work and preparing SMS status reports
- Maintain the SMS database, including the Incident, Wildlife, FOD and Fuel Spill modules

**Qualifications**:

- Post-Secondary School Diploma/Degree in Airport Management, or equivalent
- 2 years of relevant SMS experience in a comparably sized company
- 2 years of direct airside operations experience at Toronto Pearson International Airport or similar International Airport(s)
- 2 years' experience in data analytics
- Experience with Personal Computers and relational databases
- Human Factors/Behavioral Science Certificate endorsed by Transport Canada would be considered an asset
- Provincial Driver’s License (G)
- Radio Telephone Certification
- “D” class Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (AVOP) or successfully obtain one within thirty (30) days of appointment to the position
- Obtain and retain a Transportation Security Clearance

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Maintaining current knowledge of all aspects of Safety Management legislation, policies and procedures and relevant Criminal Justice Bills
- Maintaining knowledge of relevant Acts, Regulations, Standards, Recommended Practices and Procedures related to airports
- Maintaining current knowledge of theories of safety and accident investigation
- Ability to maintain concentration and attention to detail, especially in critical safety areas where care and judgement are essential, and prioritize work accordingly
- Ability to determine and assess causal factors and appropriate human factors/behavioural science associated with all airside incidents, accidents or safety reports or observations
- Ability to determine the risk levels associated with any airside activity (current or proposed), or reported safety issue or concern and determine that mitigation strategies are appropriate and will reduce the risk to acceptable levels and allow the activity to continue or commence
- Ability to impart knowledge and understanding of SMS requirements to all GTAA personnel, tenants, contractors and others whose work has an impact on airside safety
- Participating as a technical expert (Secretary/Acting Chair) of various safety committees to ensure ongoing SMS management through the establishment or provision of reco
