**About Our Opportunity**:
Reporting to the Manager, Consumer Protection the Policy and Research Analyst takes a collaborative approach to create working relationships with Business and Consumer Services Division’s stakeholders to support and enhance the Consumer Marketplace Strategy. The Policy and Research Analyst is also responsible to chair the Financial Empowerment Network of Nova Scotia (FENNS) and promote financial empowerment resources to Nova Scotians.

**Primary Accountabilities**:

- Responsible for providing comprehensive policy formulation, implementation, and research services in support of Business and Consumer Services’ Consumer Marketplace Strategy and the Financial Empowerment Network of Nova Scotia (FENNS).
- Responsible to advise senior leadership on relevant issues affecting consumers and businesses; and working with internal and external stakeholders to achieve government’s regulatory modernization objectives.
- Responsible for developing high quality policy alternatives through issue analysis, problem evaluation, jurisdictional scans, and statistical or economic analysis.
- Responsible to work collaboratively to plan, lead, or support policy, legislative, program, or regulatory changes that directly affect Service Nova Scotia's business and consumer clients.
- Responsible to manage Business and Consumer Services consumer protection blog site and create new blog content on a regular basis.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
You will hold an undergraduate degree, typically in public or business administration, law, economics, or the social sciences, and several years of experience in a related field. A Master’s degree would be considered an asset.

Experience in planning and organizing projects and processes, policy related research, analysis and evaluation is essential. The position requires strong analytical and writing skills, a well-developed ability to think independently, organize tasks and projects, and ability to identify policy options and implement practical solutions to complex problems involving multiple stakeholders.

Leadership competencies required at this level of work are: Analytical Thinking, Action Management, Team Leadership, Initiative, Effective Interactive Communication, Partnering and Relationship Building, and Intercultural and Diversity Proficiency.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
