**The County of Huron's Planning & Development Department is seeking a Temporary Full-Time County Biologist/Stewardship Co-ordinator to Join the Team**

The Biologist/Stewardship Co-ordinator provides staff support to the Huron Stewardship Council (HSC). The role is to develop, nurture, and support community and land owner relationships to promote sustainable management of woodlands, protect fish and wildlife, and implement stewardship activities. This includes an emphasis on education, awareness, and incentive tools to promote wise land stewardship.

The position also co-ordinates the Huron Clean Water Project on behalf of the County and provides support and participates in local stewardship and resource related groups such as the Water Protection Steering Committee, and the Lower Maitland Stewardship Group.

The anticipated start date for this 12 month contract position is on or about June 10, 2024.

**Role and Responsibilities**:

- Huron Clean Water Project: coordinate meetings for the HCWP’s Review Committee, track project finances, provide leadership for project direction, and update County Council.
- Provide staff support to the Huron Stewardship Council, including administration of Board (meetings, finances, recruitment, etc.), coordination of stewardship projects.
- Implement tree planting projects, as funding and opportunity allow. Assist with the implementation of the Fragile Land Retirement, and Forest Management and Woodlot Enhancement Categories of the Huron Clean Water Project.
- Support and participate in local stewardship-related committees such as the Water Protection Steering Committee, Lower Maitland Stewardship Group, and Huron Perth Woodlot Association.

**Qualifications**:

- A university degree or graduate level degree in Biology, Ecology, or related field.
- Strong problem solving, analytical, negotiation, conflict resolution, organizational, and collaboration skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience with field work, supervising staff and leading research projects a significant asset.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, policies, and processes related to natural heritage systems planning, as well as land use planning.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of the natural resources of the watershed, ecological principles, assessment techniques and protocols (i.e. ELC).
- Excellent communication skills with a broad range of partners and stakeholders, including the public. Ability to build, foster, and sustain a positive public image.
- Strong computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook, and the ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence and reliable vehicle;
**Location**:
The position will work out of the Planning and Development Department located at 57 Napier St., Goderich, Ontario, with some opportunity for remote work from home.

**Competitive Compensation**:
$43.95 per hour; as per the 2024 non-union wage grid for a 35-hour work week.
