The Human Resources Services team at McMaster partners with departments, faculties, teams and stakeholders across the university to align efforts that enable institutional priorities, help them achieve their goals, deliver excellence in service and solutions, empower learning, as well as champion opportunities for individuals to grow their careers at McMaster. Within Human Resources, the Compensation, Benefits and Retirement Programs unit is responsible for planning, designing, analyzing, and developing strategies related to McMaster University’s total rewards programs, the components of which include: compensation, job evaluation, benefits, retirement plans including defined benefit pension plans and group RRSPs. The Compensation, Benefits and Retirement Programs unit is a Centre of Expertise and works collaboratively and in an integrated manner with all other areas of HR to deliver expert advice and service excellence.

Our team is seeking to recruit a Total Rewards Specialist to use their expert knowledge and experience in compensation to: support and facilitate the job evaluation programs for unionized and non-unionized employee groups; conduct pay equity maintenance reviews; complete surveys and market analyses in support of collective bargaining. We are looking for someone with at least 5 years of experience in Human Resources combined with a degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related discipline. Prior experience with job evaluation, pay equity and total compensation processes is highly desired. Experience in a university setting and multi-unionized environment is an asset.

The Total Rewards Specialist will liaise with managers within faculties and/or departments to provide guidance and comprehensive consulting and advisory services with respect to job evaluation and will also provide recommendations on job design. They will also maintain and audit pay equity plans to ensure compliance with policies and legislative requirements, and conduct research related to the collection of job comparator information, market and survey information for both unionized and non-unionized employees. To be successful in this role, you must be viewed as a trusted partner by organizational leaders, union partners, HR partners, and employees.
