**Position Description**:
**JOB SUMMARY**:

SJHH delivers both local and regional services within a large geographic area. The Corporate Education portfolio supports the academic part of SJHH’s overall mission. As such our constituency is made up of all our staff and Teams including over 3500 Learners, over 2000 preceptors, and hundreds of faculty members.

The Director, Department of Education & Learning (DEL) is responsible for maintaining relationships with over 14 academic institutions and supporting approximately 3500 learner placements per annum. Our department supports the onboarding and learning experiences of our learners and works with preceptors to help with our capabilities and capacity for placements. The DEL is comprised of our simulation programs, Centre for Education, Learning & Simulation (CELS), Centre for Education & Innovation, Library Services and the St. Joseph’s Education Research Centre (SERC). The Centre for Education & Innovation links patient care providers, clinical educators, health researchers, and health care administrators to develop strategic partnerships with the goal of innovation. The DEL is responsible for the delivery of high-quality education within our learning environment. DEL provides expert-level guidance on the development and execution of learning programs and supporting research for our learners in the domains of education and clinical based research and quality improvement. The DEL strategic plan 2024 is being launched and the DEL Director alongside the Executive Education Committee will be responsible for it’s implementation and achievement of organizational goals.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Masters Degree is required - MBA (HR Management)
- Minimum of five years of experience in a teaching hospital(s) and research centre
- Proven track record for leading and driving systems transformation through encouraging and supporting innovation and championing and orchestrating change, developing, and sustaining healthy work environments and effective teams while leading in a performance-driven culture
- Highly developed critical thinking skills with the ability to conceptualize, analyze and problem solve
- Proficient knowledge of electronic information resources including MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, NIRV, MedSIS and Epic
- Excellent and effective abilities in both oral and written communication skills, including strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Strong collaborative skills in promoting partnership development
- Exposure to education and research

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Director, Education and Learning will translate decisions of our senior level into execution by utilizing systems thinking strategic planning and relationship management by developing purposeful coalitions with internal and external stakeholders
- Overseeing and facilitate the relationships with our Academic affiliates and partners
- Develops, implements, and communicates performance measures; conducts regular performance appraisals of direct reports, proving ongoing coaching and feedback
- Manages all DEL accounts (i.e. education, SERC, CELS, research, awards, scholarship, innovation, and simulation)
- Organizes departmental purchases for large departmental orders
- Organize program activities, direct resources, execute operational initiatives, formulate policies & procedures, and implementation of strategic plan
- Strong business acumen including management of operating and research budgets. Exceptional analytical, critical thinking and business development skills that contribute to identifying problems and issues, evaluating the interdependence of decisions, questioning, and challenging the status quo, and designing and implementing processes for improvement
