Nikihk - Housing First Floater

**Job description**
Nikihk Indigenous Housing First is an intense home visitation and follow-up program designed to assist those experiencing chronic homelessness. We provide in-home follow-up support, with cultural and spiritual support and education.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Provide follow up support, assistance, and basic skill training to high-risk indigenous men, women, youth and families in order to establish and maintain an independent and stable housing.
- Assist clients/Staff from intake to graduation w/ goal of reducing the barriers to maintain long term housing sustainability.
- The Floater will assist the Housing Outreach Worker for ensuring that individuals and families seeking Housing First Services will receive appropriate assessment of their housing issues. The Housing Outreach Worker will work in partnership with landlords from the public and private sector. In the event that re-housing is required the Housing Outreach Worker will assist the individual or family to be re-housed as they are connected to housing resources for individuals and families. The Housing Outreach Worker will arrange for all areas of move outs. The Housing Outreach Worker is responsible to house a minimum of 2 clients/month.
- Broker client with existing community services including identification acquisition, medical attention, legal resources, and income assistance.
- Implement harm reduction strategies. Clients do not have to be clean and sober to engage in the program.
- Documenting all objective interactions with clients, whether by phone or face to face, on ETO a web-based case management software.
- Report directly to Team Leader.
- Cover off caseload in the interim of staff on holidays/sick
- Keeps track of km usage and submit mileage claim to Team Leader.
- Responsible for developing professional time management while working in the community.
- With respect to client/landlord disagreement will support both client and landlord objectively with no bias to either one.
- Must have personal motor vehicle and valid driver’s license to transport clients to and from services in the community.
- Attend monthly supervision with the Team Leader.
- Conduct regular home visits to provide supportive services to clients in their desire to maintain stable housing. Create an Independence plan with clients outlining steps required to ensure client maintains stable housing. Work effectively with all members of the Team.
- Foster positive working relationships between client and housing managers.
- All staff are to be cross trained in Nikihk Housing 1st positions for the purpose of cover off as needed and requested by the Team Leader.
- Provide assistance in daily duties with all Nikihk Housing First Programs
- Follow-Up Support, Outreach, Cultural and Trauma and Supported Referrals.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- B.A./B.S.W./Human Services Degree or Diploma or equivalent; or 3 - 5 years minimum of relevant experience.
- Enthusiasm for being part of the solution to end homelessness in Edmonton, Passion for working with Aboriginal individuals; excited about being a catalyst of change in people's lives.
- Must have an understanding of the impact the loss of culture identity and intergeneration residential school syndrome has had on Aboriginal people.
- Must have own vehicle and be willing to transport clients.
- Follow up Support Worker must have a valid driver’s license and provide a copy of their driver’s license and agree to having a drivers abstract search.
- Must have 2-million-dollar liability insurance coverage and provide a copy for employee files.
- CRIM and CYIM must be provided upon hire and must be current (within a 6-month period).
**Salary and Benefits**
- Salary plus monthly auto allowance.
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probation (pro-rated)
- Extended Health Benefit (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment.
- Working approximately 34.5 hours per week
