**About CASA**
CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families. CASA provides mental health service to the missing middle - mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care, and acute treatment in hospital.
CASA’s team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners. This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.
**About the Role**
The Adolescent Day Program (ADP) aims to improve the social and learning skills of youth with serious mental health and/or addiction challenges. The program provides group, family and individual therapy while also providing education in a small classroom setting. The ADP team supports youth in grades eight to 12 who are experiencing severe challenges managing or regulating their emotions and behavior. The team includes an occupational therapist assistant, mental health therapists, classroom behaviour specialists, psychiatrists, teachers, clinical managers, speech language pathologists/assistants and more. The program is delivered in partnership with Edmonton Public Schools.
CASA House is a voluntary, tertiary-care residential program for youth in grades seven to 12, operating seven days a week. CASA House employs a multi-disciplinary team that works closely with the youth from a bio-psycho-social treatment approach, and utilizes a trauma-informed approach in all areas of programming. Adolescents who come to CASA House have complex needs, including severe mental health challenges, family dysfunction, school issues, peer related issues and social/economic challenges.
The Addictions Counsellor works collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team members to ensure success in the area of clinical service delivery. The Addictions Counsellor provides addiction treatment for adolescents and their families experiencing problems related to alcohol, drugs, tobacco, gaming, gambling and co-occurring addiction and mental health problems. The Addictions Counsellor practices according to the training and code of ethics of their specific discipline, and applies the principles of evidence-based practice to all aspects of their work. The Addictions Counsellor nurtures collaborative linkages with community partners.
The Addictions Counsellor will:
- Provide services unique to the appropriate professional discipline (addictions, psychology, social work, nursing, occupational therapy).
- Provide patient-focused, recovery-based and culturally-appropriate assessments.
- Develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions appropriate to the youth and their families.
- Conduct psycho-educational support and treatment groups for adolescents and caregivers.
- Advocate on behalf of the youth and family as appropriate, meeting youth and families at their starting point, which may include community-based meetings and support.
- Be an active, contributing member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment and treatment case review, and consultation.

**Qualifications**
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree in addictions or a combination of a bachelor’s degree in a related field with course work or a diploma in addictions.
- Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act must maintain active registration.
- Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities.
- One to two years of addictions counselling experience in community setting is required.
- Strong communication, critical thinking and problem solving skills.
- Excellent assessment, treatment and case management skills.
- Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practice.
- Respect for other disciplines and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse interest groups.
- Practical experience in a children’s mental health treatment setting.
- Completion of the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP) is an asset.

- Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
