The Addictions Counsellor is responsible for working with youth to support their unique needs and develop plans to help them make informed life decisions and recovery plans. The Addictions Counsellor must be familiar with community resources and programs available to support the unique needs of the youth.

The Addictions Counsellor is part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team that includes medical professionals, clinicians, and child and youth care professionals. The incumbent will work as part of this team to develop a youth's individual treatment plan and provide quality, youth-focused, recovery-based, and culturally appropriate assessment, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education, and referral services for youth and their families.

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Reduce stress and welcome new youth.
  • Motor skill games and life skills teaching with youth.
  • Support youth during case conferences, family visits, case worker visits, and therapy.
  • Assist with relationship building of staff with clients.

Minimum Qualifications:
Directly related two-year diploma or a degree related to the position assignment and four years of related experience.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to travel and balance home and work demands.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility when on travel status.

Equivalencies would be considered.
