**About Us**:
This role supports the Office of the Registrar portfolio and VP-Academic Programs portfolio (including the Centre for Teaching and Learning, Western Continuing Studies and the Western English Language Centre). We strive to provide the best student experience to students from the initial point of contact through their stay at Western, Convocation and beyond.

**Responsibilities**:
The Human Resources Specialist will carry out a variety of human resource related activities with a specific focus on staff recruitment for the Office of the Registrar and VP Academic Programs portfolio (including the Centre for Teaching and Learning and Western Continuing Studies). The role will provide recruitment related expertise and guidance and will respond to inquiries and resolve issues independently, while maintaining and implementing administrative processes and practices and providing related rationale, advice, education and support to colleagues and leaders within the portfolios. The HR Specialist will also interpret Western's collective and employee agreements, policies and procedures, as well as relevant legislation and act as a resource to ensure that human resource functions are implemented accordingly.

**Qualifications**:

- Education:
- Undergraduate Degree in Human Resources/Industrial Relations
- Certified Human Resources Professional
- Completion of or working toward CHRL preferred

**Experience**:
- 3 years' experience in a Human Resources role with a focus on recruitment
- Experience in a unionized environment preferred
- Experience with Human Resources in a Higher Education setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Familiarity with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act regulations
- In-depth knowledge of Human Resources statute, principles and practices in area of focus and of the Employment Standards Act, and other relevant legislation
- Communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
- Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
- Ability to produce high-quality results and workable solutions that meet client needs
- Detail-oriented with an ability to function and process information with high levels of accuracy
- Ability and willingness to stay abreast of technological developments
- Ability to work independently and maintain direction and focus through proactive planning and organized approaches to work
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to create a positive impression while interacting with others and responding to inquiries, by telephone, in person or electronically
- Demonstrated ability to understand and resolve external and internal partner issues
- Ability to identify opportunities for improvement, while being open to trying new ideas and working methods
- Proven ability to take initiative and champion a project from conception through implementation and evaluation
