**Salary**: $3,019.49 to $3,910.86 bi-weekly ($78,808 - $102,073 /year)
Forestry and Parks - Responsible for growing our manufactured wood products and forestry sector, preserving, and managing our public lands and protected areas. Protected areas are essential to the quality of life that Albertans enjoy. They conserve our natural landscapes and wildlife habitat and offer a broad range of nature-based outdoor recreational opportunities. Forestry and Parks is also responsible for the sustainable allocation and use of all fish and wildlife resources in Alberta including the management and statutory decision making for these valuable resources.
**Role Responsibilities**:
We are seeking a Provincial Fish Allocation and Use Specialist who will be responsible for the development and provision of expert advice regarding statutory decisions around domestic, recreational, and economic fisheries in Alberta.
Reporting to the Director of Fisheries Allocation and Use in the Hunting and Fishing Branch, Ministry of Forestry and Parks, the Provincial Fish Allocation and Use Specialist is a senior, professional level fisheries management biologist operating with a high degree of independence, with provincial-level responsibility and influence on the development and implementation of management practices and strategies including fisheries regulations as well as an influence on licensing.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Directly involved in the development and management of the provincial fisheries allocation program.
- Developing and presenting informative materials for fisheries management, developing schedules, reviewing documents, interacting on-line and face-to-face with Indigenous, recreational, and economic stakeholders.
- Developing strategic policy positions to support the regulation and management of recreational fisheries. Reviewing and making recommendations to policy, legislation, and program area changes within the Branch and potentially other areas or levels of government or regulators.
- Providing support to relevant research programs and projects quantitatively assessing fisheries management related questions.
- Managing staffing needs, developing program safety plans, and managing budget transactions.

**Qualifications**:
- Required:
- A completed University degree in Natural Resources, Conservation Management, Biology, Fisheries Management, Aquatics Ecology or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of directly related field experience in fisheries management.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s License (or equivalent).
Equivalencies may be considered: Related 2-year diploma plus 8 years of related experience. Additional related education considered in lieu of experience, one year of experience for one year of education.
- Assets:
- MSc or PhD in a related field.
- Experience with Alberta Fisheries Management program, including program goals, standards, guidelines, and policies.
