**_Veterinary Purchasing Co. Ltd. (VP) _**_located in St. Marys, Ontario, is the largest Veterinary Supplier in Ontario and is currently looking to add a dynamic individual within our Human Resources department for a 6-month contract position as:_

**Human Resources Assistant**
- Reporting to the Human Resources & Safety Compliance Manager, this individual will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the HR Department including, but not limited to, recruitment, payroll, benefits administration, employee relations and health and safety. The successful applicant will have excellent communication skills and be highly motivated, organized, and able to work under pressure._

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**:

- Support coordinators with general HR administration.
- Understand, interpret, and effectively communicate VP policies and procedures.
- Help to plan and organize company events and initiatives.
- Assist with screening applicants and conducting reference and background checks.
- Ensure all documentation is complete and systems updated in a timely manner.
- Assist with the maintenance and tracking of training programs within the HR department.
- Assist with the employee database, ensuring accuracy and data integrity.
- Responsible for recording and distributing minutes from departmental meetings.
- Support HR department with year-end data updating/entry.
- Participate in policy review and updates to the Employee Handbook
- Assist with policy and procedure writing.
- Maintain company communication boards.
- Additional projects and duties as assigned by the HR & Safety Compliance Manager.

Health & Safety
- Works in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Conducts self with regard for safety of employees; is aware of safety and evacuation procedures.
- Report any health & safety violations or hazards.

Good manufacturing practices:

- Follow and understand all relevant Standard Operating Procedures with respect to Good Manufacturing Practices

Skills and knowledge required:

- Diploma or degree in Human Resources or similar.
- CHRP designation or working towards considered an asset.
- Familiarity with HRIS, Payroll and Time & Attendance systems.
- Knowledge of Provincial Employment Standards, Health & Safety, and Human Rights legislation.
- Familiarity with Human Resources principles and practices.
- Intermediate MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- 0-2 years’ experience in a similar role.

**Schedule**:Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5pm (on-site)
