Interior Health is hiring a Energy Specialist to join our Energy Management team.

**About the role**:
The Energy Specialist provides technical leadership, project management and support on the analysis of energy data and information. The Energy Specialist supports the Thermal Energy Manager, Facilities Management and Operations team with project and technical leadership in the area of energy management. Energy Specialist will be responsible to complete energy audits and consumption assessments, manage projects, measure and report on energy savings, prepare business cases, reports and presentation. Primary objective will be to increase participation in FortisBC’s Demand Side Management programs by implementing energy conservation projects and ensuring that Interior Health’s facilities and operational staff are fully aware of all energy efficiency and conservation initiatives/incentives/educational programs offered by FortisBC.

The Energy Specialist keeps apprised of best practices on energy management, with a focus on natural gas, identifying key energy issues and assumptions to facilitate the process and procedures to enable the accurate and timely completion of the annual reporting/planning process. The Energy Specialist conducts financial, statistical, technical, or workload analysis and research to track and monitor energy-related projects as directed by the Energy Manager.

Some key duties:

- Works with the Thermal Energy Manager to assess energy and consumption baselines and reports on the effectiveness of various energy conservation initiatives, with an emphasis on natural gas; identifies opportunities for energy conservation projects and makes recommendations to the Thermal Energy Manager.
- manages assigned projects, including energy conservation project implementation, measuring and reporting key performance indicators or benchmarks; communicated results internally and with key stakeholders including directing and overseeing the utilization of project-related staff and/or budget resources.
- Measures and reports on key performance indicators and benchmarks, including developing business reports, memos, proposals, business cases, and presentations to internal stakeholders (i.e. Director, Facilities Management and Operations, and internal environmental sustainability teams).
- Participates in the development of internal and external energy and sustainability strategies to support facility and organizational initiatives; develops business cases, reports, and proposals for energy conservation; and conducts related data analysis or research to identify best practices.
- Conducts financial, statistical, technical, or workload analysis and research to track and monitor energy-related projects. Submits quarterly assessments to FortisBC outlining all completed, current and planned projects that will result in natural gas savings.
- Develops and manages an FMO engagement program to work with operational staff to discover opportunities for energy conservation in conjunction with available utility incentives.
- Project Management including working with consultants and contractors on energy assessments, design development and project implementation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Education, Training, and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Building, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Business Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering, or Operations Management.
- BCIT Sustainable Energy Management Associate Certificate (SEMAC)
- UBC Master’s degree in Clean Energy; Completion of the Demand-Side Energy Efficiency & Conservation course
- Yorkville University Energy Management Specialization
- Douglas College Building Energy and Resource Management program certificate
- Langara Energy Management Certificate Proof of passing the Certified Energy Manager under the Canadian Institute for Energy Training
- Master’s degree in sustainability and planning
- 3-5 years related work experience
- PMP Certificate consider an asset

**Skills and Abilities**
- Comprehensive knowledge of building mechanical and electrical systems, including broad knowledge of Building Automation Systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with energy efficient technology related to HVAC systems, cooling plant equipment, heating plant equipment, and control systems.
- Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies.
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience in project management, contract management, business case development, financial controls, and analysis.
- A thorough understanding of available resources, such as Fortis BC incentives.
