What You Will Get To Do

Reporting to the Working Foreperson (Horticulture-Turf), the Gardener is responsible for performing horticulture related duties including:

- design and layout flower beds using principles of creative design;
- planting, pruning and maintaining trees, shrubs and flowers;
- seeding and sodding;
- monitoring disease and insect problems;
- spraying of pesticides;
- development and implementation of the horticultural maintenance program;
- provide information to assist in the preparation of budget and tenders;
- operating power and manual equipment and/or tools required to perform related duties;
- provide supervision, training and guidance to staff with routine gardening maintenance;
- delegation of tasks and ensuring work is being completed properly and on time;
- snow removal activities and forestry related duties, including assisting with winter street tree/block pruning, during the winter months; and,
- other duties as required and assigned.

What You Bring To Our Team
- a post-secondary school diploma in Horticulture and/or a Horticultural Apprenticeship Certificate of Qualification combined with two (2) years of directly related experience in all aspects of horticulture;
- possess valid Landscape Exterminator and Industrial Vegetation Exterminator Certificates from the Ministry of the Environment;
