**Duties**:
- Accepts work assignment directly from the Senior Occupational Therapist and reports directly to the Director of Patient Care Services.
- The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) supports the supervising Occupational Therapist in implementation of therapist approved services and programs.
- Provide supportive care consistent with patient treatment/rehabilitation needs and goals.
- Under the direction of the Occupational Therapist, supervise or assist with individual patient treatment program
- Assist in or conducts group activity programs.
- Assist client to practice using assistive or adaptive equipment
- Instruct and demonstrate the safe use of therapeutic equipment
- Monitor and report changes, health status to the supervising OT on a regular basis
- Participate in professional, program and hospital-wide initiatives
- Set up and maintain clean and safe patient treatment areas
- Assist in the maintenance of equipment and supplies inventory
- Presents a positive image of the Royal in the community
- Supports the philosophy of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group Follow the policies and procedures of the Royal as outlined in the Policy & Procedures Manual

**Qualifications**:
- Diploma from an Occupational Assistant Program from a recognized College of Applied Arts and Technology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Knowledge and experience in psychiatric mental health
- Knowledge and experience in the use of adaptive aids/equipment
- Valid Certified in CPR and First Aid
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decision Act.
- Satisfactory Police Records Check, for vulnerable sector
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a professional multi-disciplinary treatment team.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for work purposes
- Computer literate and capable of coaching patients with respect to computer use
- Ability to effectively work with a team and communicate with diverse populations.
- English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, oral comprehension, reading comprehension and written expression. Bilingualism an asset.
**Salary Range**:
- $35.35 to $38.64 per hour
