East End Community Health Centre provides primary care, and health promotion and prevention services to southeast Toronto. A unique aspect of our mandate is to serve people who may have difficulty accessing health care due to factors such as language, culture, poverty or the lack of health insurance.

At East End CHC, the youth would support our Community Health Team to deliver health and wellness programs. Duties will include assisting with program coordination, outreach, planning, implementation, and evaluation as well as creating promotional material and assisting the Community Health Team as needed. This position is part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

The Community Service Worker works in partnership with other staff and management to support the Vision, Mission, and Values of the Centre.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support community health workers with facilitation and outreach for various health-related groups conducted both in-person and virtual
- Help staff with set-up and clean-up for health-related groups, meetings, and events conducted both in-person and virtual
- Develop health education materials including handouts, power-point presentations, displays, and games
- Will work alongside the community health workers to interact with clients of the centre, work in pairs, small and large groups to coordinate tasks, plan, and make decisions together regarding our group programming
- Will work on background research for client and group information resources for use in working with community health workers in their individual client support and in their group programming activities.
- Identify support requirements and communicate with staff and supervisors
- Other research or administrative support as needed.

**ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS**

**This is a Canada Summer Jobs position. To be eligible, applicants must**:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period*;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

*The youth must be 15 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. The youth may be more than 30 years of age at the end of the employment period as long as the youth was 30 at the beginning of the employment period.

**International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada. Youth awaiting a refugee status ruling, as well as those who hold a temporary visitor visa, youth visa or work visa are ineligible. As the objective of the Canada Summer Jobs program is to support youth entering the Canadian labour market, the temporary nature of an international student’s time in Canada does not allow for a long-term connection to the labour market.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Suited to a student interested in social work, community and health studies or a related discipline
- Interest in community engagement strategies and projects
- Experience developing resources, such as educational flyers or activity handouts
- Strong computer skills, including Virtual Communication Platforms (ie. Zoom), Word and Power-point.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with clients and colleagues in a culturally diverse practice population
- Excellent communication, decision-making, problem-solving, conflict management and time management skills
- Must be vaccinated against COVID-19
