**What can I expect to do in this role?**: As the Operational Database Administrator, your primary focus will be on providing operational database support and administration (7/24/365).

You will:

- provide senior level support over the operations and administration of the database tier (SQL Server) which is part of a high availability middleware environment that includes Windows.NET technologies (such as Dynamics, IIS, SharePoint, SQL Server, System Centre, UAG) that make up the service offering
- provide technical leadership and consultation in the operations of all database systems, capacity and availability planning, performance tuning of the database to ensure high availability service targets commitments to clients are being met
- provide technical leadership and consultation in the operation of all systems, consult with and represent Operations, Maintenance & Support Branch with internal and external stakeholders, negotiate change management for the development and implementation of new systems as well as walking staff through new processes and technologies
- must be available for occasional travel within Ontario

**How do I qualify?**:
**Database Administration Skills**: You have:

- experience in the design and implementation of data backup, recovery, availability, integrity and security strategies in order to meet service level commitments to customers
- experience developing proactive and reactive database solutions that align with overall system availability, performance and capacity
- experience conducting database analysis, design, development and testing
- experience identifying infrastructure implementation impacts

**Project Planning and Group Leadership Skills**:

- You can develop proposals for information technology plans in relation to the information technology strategy and plans.
- You can lead cross-functional teams in the develop of solutions for project and operational issues.

**Analytical and Problem Solving Skills**:

- You have experience independently solving IT issues (both tactical solutions and long-term solutions through the use of root cause analysis).
- You can review and analyse the technology environment systems management issues / concerns / initiatives.
- You can identify and define multi-platform system integration problems and co-ordinate complex resolution processes with service providers.

**Communication & Interpersonal Skills**:

- You can prepare reports, briefs, and papers on systems: management/database policies and standards, and; report on assessment of technical specifications and considerations (e.g., technical design features ensuring data integrity/availability/reliability.
- You can explain technical solutions and make presentations to division management and technical staff on proposals for systems management aspects of information technology plans/strategies.
- You can discuss strategies with senior managers and encourage support for recommended approach that facilitates the achievement of information technology objectives.
