Children's Mental Health Worker

Job Purpose:
To ensure the effective delivery of mental health and addcitions programming such that the needs of urban Aboriginal children and youth referred to the program are met in a culturally appropriate manner.

Qualifications:

- must have registration with a professional regulatory body (eg: Ontario College of Social Work and Social Service Workers, College of Psychotherapy, etc.)
- minimum of three years of demonstrated and related work experience within the field of addictions and mental health, with an emphasis on child and youth work
- strong knowledge and awareness of Aboriginal culture and history, with emphasis on family violence, child welfare, the impacts of trauma, Aboriginal youth engagement and community outreach
- ability to work professionally and collaboratively with mental health and child welfare agencies in Ontario
- strong understanding of the Ontario Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Child and Family Services Act and Ontario Children's Aid Societies, with emphasis on the impacts of Aboriginal families
- excellent oral and written communication skills
- excellent computer and group facilitation skills
- experience completing quarterly statistical and narrative reporting
- excellent ability to work in compliance with deadlines with minimum supervision
- must have a valid drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
- a clear Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) which includes screening for vulnerable position will be a condition of the employment offer
