He/she will be responsible for carrying out and overseeing a range of tasks to work towards Kwiis hen niip project aims; specific responsibilities are outlined below. This is a full-time role, entailing ~37.5 hours/ week; working hours are flexible but may require some evenings and weekends for community events with other flexible time-off to ensure that weekly hours are not more than 37.5 hours. This position requires occasional travel to remote communities, including overnight stays, to attend events, meetings, and community visits. All travel costs will be covered by the project
Organizational Status
The vision of the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine is to be a provincially integrated Department committed to clinical and academic leadership in the creation and exchange of knowledge to promote excellence in emergency care. Our faculty members across the province have had an impressive record of research and discovery and in providing high-quality training in emergency care. Our research and innovation initiatives include fourteen successful programs related to prevention of emergencies, improving clinical care, and system improvements. Our Emergency Medicine Royal College residency training program, distributed across four program sites, is the largest in the country. The Department of Emergency Medicine has also played a leadership role in the development and implementation of the BC Emergency Medicine Network, which integrates and translates knowledge to support exceptional emergency care across the province and is working to enhance support for emergency practitioners in all settings: urban, rural, remote, and Indigenous.
Work Performed
Support the project's leads in overall planning and coordination of project objectives, providing research support and culturally/ locally appropriate advising to team members as needed;
Coordinate with Kwiis hen niip team to respond to issues identified by community as they arise; support collective problem-solving, prioritizing issues, proposing solutions, and adapting plans in real-time.
Support preparation of abstracts, posters, presentations, manuscripts, reports, and lay summaries for scientific dissemination and public relations; collecting and organizing data, drafting sections, and reviewing materials for cultural appropriateness.
Be responsible for scheduling and facilitation of team check-ins, investigator meetings, community visits, and special meetings;
Communicate updates at weekly meetings;
Keep detailed and organized records of meeting minutes and notes from community visits;
Plan and coordinate travel with project team members and community partners for approved community visits, events and research activities;
Regularly communicate with the project team, community contacts and project partners/ collaborators, including dissemination of communications materials;
Respond to inquiries about the project (e.g. from community contacts, stakeholders, the press);
Collaborate with NTC and Nation staff and community members to help build and maintain positive relationships, understand the project, and engage community participation;
Complete other duties or tasks as may be requested by the Kwiis hen niip Manager and the Project's Nominated Principal Investigator.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Kwiis hen niip Community Coordinator is required to participate in and conduct all position-related tasks in a professional and ethical manner and to maintain strict confidentiality where required. Inappropriate disclosure of research participants' personal information would contravene privacy legislation and could result in legal action. Establishing effective working relationships within the team and with other study stakeholders is essential in the success of the research study. Inability to foster effective working relationships or engage in appropriate consultation with project leads and designated community representatives may affect the integrity of the study and the successful and ti
