**ABOUT WANASAH**

Wanasah is a new mental health agency created to address the urgent mental health and addictions needs of Black youth and their families through the provision of effective Black-centric mental health services in the community. Wanasah recognizes the need for inclusive, trauma-informed care with meaningful incorporation of spirituality and community voice in its programming.  We work within an anti-racist, anti-Black racist and anti-oppression framework that incorporates principles of intersectionality. Wanasah is based in Regent Park, Toronto.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new organization that is passionate about making a positive difference in the lives of Black youth in Toronto.  The successful individual will work with a small, dedicated team to develop, evaluate and adapt an innovative model of care.

**Position Summary**

Spiritual Care Facilitator will work with Black youth aged 12-25 with mental health and addictions concerns and their families in Regent Park and neighbouring areas. These youth may be experiencing serious diagnosed/undiagnosed mental illness, problematic substance use, violence, grief/loss, involvement with the criminal justice system and/or a mental health crisis. Regent Park has a large Black East African community along with other diverse Black populations that make up our clients. Wanasah’s approach includes embedding services in the community we are serving. The main role of the Spiritual Care Facilitator is to support the provision of spiritual care for clients to enhance care through a variety of activities including outreach, engagement, care planning, interventions, groups and individual sessions. The Spiritual Care Facilitator will report directly to the Program Manager and work closely with other members of the Wanasah team, namely Community Support Worker, Case Manager, and Mental Health Counsellors, as well as partner agencies in the community. A key focus will be on building trust and engagement with clients and their families in order to develop a substance use support group for Black men. The Spiritual Care Facilitator will utilize a Black-centric, person and family centered, spiritually affirming, trauma informed approach. Initially, most services will be provided virtually.

**Responsibilities Include**:

- Utilize and develop creative spiritually informed engagement strategies to support the connection of clients and their families into Wanasah programs
- Provide individual and group spiritual supports to Wanasah clients under the supervision of the primary Mental Health Clinician
- Develop and build a network of practitioners from the diverse faith communities
- Function as an active liaison between the diverse faith communities
- Plan, develop and co-facilitate a substance use support group for Black youth
- Work collaboratively with the primary Mental Health Clinicians to develop and implement workshops and groups for community residents and agency staff
- Act as a resource for staff to meaningfully incorporate culturally specific spiritual health to strengthen and honour resilience, dignity, and identity of Black youth and their families
- Act as a spiritual care advocate for the care and treatment of the person holistically
- Participate in quality-of-care activities to initiate positive changes in programs and care
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client records and documentation
- Participate as a full member of Wanasah’s team
- Comply with Wanasah’s policies and procedures
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with family/chosen family, community agencies/partners and other resources in the community
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain confidentiality
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:

- Health related degree or related field/equivalence (preferred) The minimum level of education for this role is completion of a formal post-secondary/college/degree program or two academic years in a related field (Chaplaincy, Divinity, Theology, Pastoral Counseling, Spiritual Care, etc.).
- At least 2 years experience providing spiritual care
- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals with mental health, substance use and addictions issues, from a recovery, harm reduction, and client centered approach
- Knowledge of issues impacting youth with mental health, substance use and addictions concerns, and familiarity with local resources and supports
- Understanding of spirituality and/or faith in providing meaningful mental health and addictions services
- Self-directed and independent, but also proven experience working effectively as a team member, including in collaboration with other community partners
- Proven commitment to ongoing learning
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Peer support-related training considered an asset
- Thorough understanding and commitment of anti-Black racism/ anti-rac
