**Accounting and Administration, Special Olympics Ontario**

**Job purpose**

This position is responsible for managing all accounting functions, financial controls, influencing changes to financial processes and procedures, supporting staff and resources in the department and assisting other Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) staff, communities, volunteer members, sponsors and partners on financial performance, trends and accounting related matters.

In addition, this position assists the Sr Manager, Accounting Services in developing and maintaining the overall financial and information management strategy for the organization and for the daily finance and administration operations at the Provincial Office at 65 Overlea Blvd, Toronto.

**Responsibilities include**:
Administration of the accounting functions and resources including:

- Administration of financial service delivery and projects for SOO
- Administration of budget and resources
- Liaison with SOO staff, members, communities and external partners

Related to the following areas and specific responsibilities:
**1.** **GENERAL ACCOUNTING**
- Assign and maintain account codes
- Ensure accuracy and validity of Journal entries
- Review invoices for accuracy and validity of information, approvals and coding
- Check expense claim forms for proper documentation and approvals
- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card transactions, and bank and payroll reconciliations
- Evaluates financial systems and procedures and reviews, recommends, revises and implements finance policies, procedures and processes to the Sr Manager Finance & Admin

**2. FINANCIAL REPORTING AND BUDGETING**
- Ensure accuracy of monthly financial statements
- Coordinate compilation of financial statements and update with year-end forecasts
- Manages General Ledger (GL) integrity by reviewing coding to ensure accuracy and compliance with Management Information Systems and the approved budget
- Manages the accounts receivable and revenue generation function to maximize the cash flow for the organization
- Monitor daily bank balances and cash flows
- Assist with the development of the annual external audit report, lead sheets and account analysis in conjunction with auditors
- Prepare and file financial reports for provincial and federal governments
- Assist with the year-end activities, including CRA year-end reporting, T4 and t4A information and summaries
- Assist with the annual budget preparation and compilation
- Assists with the budget plan assumptions and balancing strategies
- Monitor investments and advise in accordance with the established policies and guidelines

**3. PEOPLE FOCUSSED**
- Liaison with and provide support to SOO staff, members, communities, sponsors and partners as needed
- Serve as a contributing member of the Finance and Administration Team
- Participate on and provide the required support and guidance to internal finance projects and committees as assigned
- Provides support to the Sr Manager in preparing data for the SOO board meetings, collaborates on development and presentation of material; including technical explanations and responses to concerns
- Participate in SOO staff events and activities as needed
- Work in accordance with all SOO policies, procedures and processes, and federal and provincial legislation
- Employs consensus building skills to ensure the most beneficial outcomes to the department
- Work in accordance with all health and safety requirements
- Other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**
- Recognized professional accounting designation such as CPA, CMA, CA
- Minimum of 2 years relevant work experience
- Superior interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in English
- Superior analytical understanding to support root cause identification to develop appropriate solutions
- Detail oriented with demonstrated critical thinking
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and confidentiality
- Superior computer skills in MS Office Applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Knowledge of various accounting packages, experience with ACCPAC a must
- An independent, self-motivated individual who is also capable of working as part of a team
- Strong organizational skills, with an ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
