**ABOUT THE ROLE**:

- Edlanete_ We are seeking a passionate Educator in** Dene Language **to join our school team. The **Dene Language Teacher** is responsible for the development and instruction of the Dene language program in Fort McKay. This position will include classroom instruction and the development of Dene language materials and resources. The incumbent will utilize a team-centered approach and work with school staff, parents, students and community members. This is a full-time salaried position reporting directly to the Principal of Elsie Fabian School.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:_
- Champion the development and delivery of the Dene Language Program at the school and within the community
- Coordinate and assist with language and cultural programing including curriculum development for the Fort McKay School
- Teach and instruct Dene language and culture in accordance with the school schedule
- Develop Dene Language programming that promotes best practices in learning, assessment, and instruction
- Bring Dene knowledge and cultural competency in the design and development of resources
- Provide student assessment and reports in accordance with the school calendar
- Work both autonomously and in teams on diverse language projects
- In collaboration with the Language and Culture Teachers, assist with cultural events
- Continuously provide inquiry and reflect on teaching best practices
- Review of current literature on best practices in Dene Language and Culture
- Attend in-services and workshops as approved by the Principal
- Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

**KEY REQUIREMENTS**
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education
- Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
- Extensive Knowledge of Dene Language instruction
- Fluency in Dene language both written and oral
- Respect and understanding for Fort McKay traditions, values, and culture
- Enthusiasm, flexibility, dedication and commitment to community language and culture revitalization
- Previous teaching experience and strong classroom management skills
- Experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is a definite asset
- Clean Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector required
- Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract required
