ABOUT THE POSITION
We are looking for a dedicated Educator specializing in Cree Language to become an integral part of our educational team. The Cree Language Educator will oversee the creation and delivery of the Cree language curriculum within the Fort McKay community. This role encompasses classroom teaching as well as the design of educational materials and resources related to the Cree language. The successful candidate will adopt a collaborative approach, engaging with school personnel, parents, students, and community stakeholders. This position reports directly to the Principal of Elsie Fabian School.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement language and cultural programming and curriculum within the Fort McKay School, ensuring adherence to the school timetable for teaching Cree language and culture. Create a comprehensive Cree Language Program that embodies effective learning, assessment, and instructional practices. Collaborate with staff to facilitate the integration of Cree language across all subjects and classes. Utilize cultural knowledge to inform the design and development of educational resources. Promote a positive representation of Cree Language and culture within the school and the wider community. Conduct student assessments and prepare reports in alignment with the academic calendar. Work independently and collaboratively on various language-related projects. Assist with cultural events in partnership with Language and Culture Teachers. Engage in ongoing inquiry and reflection on effective teaching methodologies. Stay informed on current literature regarding best practices in Cree Language and Culture. Participate in professional development opportunities as sanctioned by the Director of Education. Undertake additional responsibilities as required. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. In-depth knowledge of Cree Language instruction. Proficiency in both written and spoken Cree language. Respect and appreciation for the traditions, values, and culture of Fort McKay. A strong commitment to community language and cultural revitalization, characterized by enthusiasm and adaptability. Previous teaching experience with effective classroom management skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Experience within a First Nations community, with an understanding of First Nations culture, traditions, and values is highly advantageous. A clear Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector screening is mandatory. A valid class 5 Driver's License and a clean driving record are required.
