**Role**:
Reporting to the Manager, Neighbourhood Development and Support, the Neighbourhood Program Assistant is responsible for providing support to programs and supports provided by the Neighbourhood Development and Support team, including the London Community Gardens program from May to September and the Neighbourhood Managed Ice Rinks program from October to April. This casual position works as part of a team indoors and outdoors helping to enhance London neighbourhoods through engagement and connections with the creation of more neighbourhood gathering places.

**Responsibilities**:

- Support, liaise with and communicate effectively with residents, neighbourhood groups, and City of London staff.
- Visit sites on a regular basis, complete routine checks, and work with Neighbourhood Development and Support and Parks Operations to ensure gardens and rinks are operational and well-maintained throughout the year.
- Support the registration, orientation, and closing processes for gardens and rinks.
- Attend neighbourhood and city-wide events where applicable to engage with residents and promote City of London programs.
- Respond to communications in a thoughtful and timely manner.
- Keep accurate and detailed records.
- Support the Coordinator to produce quarterly newsletters.
- Attend evening and weekend functions/events, as required.
- Ensure all City of London policies and practices are followed.
- Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.
- Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
- Perform other duties as guided by the Coordinator, Community Plans and Programs and the Manager, Neighborhood Development and Support.

**Qualifications**:

- Successfully completed (or in progress of completing) a university degree or community college diploma in social sciences, community development, social work, recreation or a related field with lived community experience will be considered.
- Standard First Aid/CPR required (prior to the start of employment).
- Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (prior to the start of employment).
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to seek and form new relationships.
- Experience with community engagement and outreach.
- Knowledge of issues impacting equity seeking populations (including anti-oppression, anti-discrimination, decolonization, anti-racism, xenophobia, ableism, etc.).
- Fosters an environment where people feel welcomed and included.
- Knowledge of community organizations and resources is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with London and its neighbourhoods.
- Ability to travel to community locations throughout London and bring supplies and equipment that may require heavy lifting.
- Strong attention to detail and organization skills.
- Customer service experience.
- Technical proficiencies in Microsoft Teams and Office programs.
- Confidence to use a variety of software and A/V technology.
- Motivated self-starter and willingness to take initiative.
- Excellent written, oral communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to deal with conflict and conflict resolution.
- Ability to speak other languages is an asset.

- Able to work independently with mínimal supervision and make independent judgments based on a variety of situations.

**Other Information**:
This position is part-time from November to May (up to 24 hours per week) and full-time (up to 44 hours per week) from April to October.

Rate of pay: $21.00/hour
