**Summer Climate & Sustainability Engagement Assistant**

**Location**: Métis Nation of Alberta Provincial Office in Edmonton, AB

**Position Status**: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Summer Student (May-August)

**Key Responsibilities**
- Assist with environment and climate change citizen engagements, plan and attend events, and engage with community members.
- Contribute to development and implementation of environment and sustainability awareness tools and informative resources for MNA citizens.
- Support environment and climate engagement through development of community reports, department reports, and the Environment and Climate Change webpage and social media accounts.
- Identify and implement sustainability measures at MNA facilities, such as community garden and waste reduction efforts.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of environment and sustainability awareness tools and resources for the MNA citizens.
- Present a positive and professional image of the organization when interacting with employees, citizens, visitors, and other external stakeholders.
- Assist with administration of MNA Provincial events & programs.
- Other duties as required or assigned.

**Skills & Competencies**

We are looking for a motivated, confident individual who is passionate about environment and climate change issues, coordinating events, and engaging with community. Commitment to teamwork is required in dealing with colleagues in an everyday working environment. Other skills/competencies include:

- Strong interest in developing climate and environmental sustainability content and communicating sustainability education through social media and other platforms.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships.
- Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to organize and prioritize daily tasks and long-term objectives.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, and willingness to learn new skills.
- Flexible and adaptable, with an ability to switch between multiple priorities.
- Ability to work with and convey messages to different audiences.
- Ability to produce professional reports, documents, and presentations.
- Political and cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the MNA and Métis culture is an asset.
- Strong understanding of climate change, emergency management, and environmental justice is an asset.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resource Management, Native Studies, Education, or related field is preferred. Other relevant training and experience will be considered.
- 1-2 years of experience in a community engagement or environment/climate role is an asset. School or volunteer experience is valid experience.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset.
- **Other Requirements**:

- Availability to work Monday to Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends, as required.
- Ability to travel throughout Alberta is a requirement.
- Reliable transportation and valid Class 5 driver’s license.
