Event Coordinator - Summer Student

The Ancaster Village BIA is now hiring an Event Coordinator - Summer Student - to fill an 8-week position.

Beginning Approximately June 26th 2023

Full Time 35 hours per week, 8 Week Role

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
- prep and social media and BIA office.

Wednesday - Market set up, volunteer coordination, music coordination, vendor support, etc.

The Ancaster Farmers Market, a key gathering place and cultural hub (local music and arts) in our community for all ages(families and seniors) and abilities, and the ABIA are dedicated to supporting local farmers and small businesses. It is an outlet for our farmers, musicians and a gathering place for all in our community
- young/old, new to Canada and we have even facilitated access with our local agency ACS to have darts bring community members and seniors that need help with access to our event. Our student will be able to help support this very popular event and icon in our community. The student will be mentored by our Market Manager and Executive Director daily / weekly, they will also be shown all necessary steps to keep themselves safe while supporting the Market and businesses. Our goal is for the student to leave with a better understanding of our community, environment, farms, small businesses and how we work to support them in Ancaster. This is a diverse job opportunity that will allow the student to work on many key skills applicable for future positions. Students will be working directly with our vendors and shoppers at the Market, as well as BIA members. Their teamwork skills will be developed as they work together to set up and take down the weekly market. Managing and coordinating the many volunteers will be an opportunity to grow their leadership skills. Our activities are all supported by our social media, but they will also be able to develop their digital skills on our website modifications, zoom meetings, spreadsheet developments and maintenance to only list a few. Finally, communication will be developed as there will be many daily/weekly discussions on safety protocols, set up procedures, online meetings, written correspondence, etc.

On Market Day:

- Monitor setup and takedown
- Support vendors with set up and take down
- Maintain Market activity while open
- Oversee volunteers Non Market Days, while supporting BIA and not limited to:

- Sourcing supplies
- Coordinating musicians
- Cheques and invoices prep
- Prepare and coordinate surveys, summarize -Parking review
- report to Market Manager

This student will also aid in the support of the BIA to small businesses with planning and roll out marketing and events for 2023 and will focus on the daily organization, administration and marketing of the BIA. Some activities for the BIA include:

- attend meetings (some virtual, some in-person)
- maintain beautification of the BIA
- distribution of materials for the BIA, assist in garbage removal and poster removal from posts in the BIA, answering the phone in the office, other light duties that arise.

As well, this student has the opportunity to learn and start the initial planning for upcoming events that are linked to the Holiday season. -planning events within the Ancaster community for Holidays, and everyday (musicians, activations) This position, along with the others requested allow for our students to grow their abilities and seek out experiences for their future scholastic development and career decisions.

This position allows them to develop communication skills, leadership skills, being a self-starter and their individual professionalism. It is great to be able to mentor our local students while their efforts are greatly appreciated by the local businesses and community as a whole.

$15.50 / hour
