Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Specialist

OSSTF PSSP 6 - $43.50 to $61.75 per hour

Temporary Full Time Position (35 hpw)

Effective to June 30, 2023

Position Summary:
The Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Specialist will work with the school and board-level multidisciplinary teams to provide consultation, training, and support with the implementation of ABA programming for specific students, special education and general education classrooms. The ABA Specialist will ensure that the principles of ABA are applied in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM) 140 to build capacity in the system, to support collaboration between internal and external service providers and school teams, and to improve outcomes for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other complex needs.

Major Responsibilities:
Develop, implement and support ABA strategies to address students’ learning and behavioural needs within the context of the inclusive classroom setting

Conduct formal assessments to understand functions of behaviour.

Model and coach the implementation of student-specific ABA strategies for school teams.

Develop, implement and model student specific plans (i.e. BMS Safety Plans, Positive Behaviour Intervention Plans, PFA-SBT programs, AIM, etc.).

Support data collection and analyse data to determine efficacy of implemented strategies.

Collaborate and coordinate with members of the board-level multidisciplinary teams as well as participate in parent meetings, team action planning (TAP), and and Individual Education Plan (IEP) development.

To liaise with community partners to support transitions and programming for children and youth receiving OAP services, stay current with available community resources for students, families, and school teams

Develop and deliver system level professional development to promote system-wide awareness and use of ABA strategies and the effective use of related resources to support students with ASD.

To stay current with relevant research, initiatives and evidence-based practises as they relate to ASD and ABA.

Contribute to the development of internal protocols for service delivery

To carry out duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education: Exceptional Learners

Qualifications and Experience:
Certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®)

Master’s degree in Psychology or related discipline, with a minimum of three years supervised practical field experience as overseen by a clinical psychologist, BCBA, or BCBA-D in the areas of:

- Comprehensive and Focused-ABA programs.
- Completing Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBAs).
- Observation and individualized data collection methods, strategies to analyze and summarize data.
- Development of written Behaviour Intervention/Support Plans, skill development programs.
- Implementing behavioural/cognitive-behavioural strategies and programs.
- Development and implementation of individualized reinforcement, self-monitoring and self-regulation programs.

Intensive clinical experience working with children and youth with special education needs, in particular students with ASD. Experience with mental health and/or complex needs are considered an asset.
